Christmas
A friend who had it as a surname (pron. No-El)
Edmonds

For some reasons making it 2 syllables makes me think of Christmas and my friend, 1 syllable of Mr Edmonds and other first name usage.

I think it's a nice name and deserves a revival FWIW!

I think of a long-running argument about how it's pronounced.

To me it's not "Nole" or "Noelle", it's No-ul. A definite two syllables but the second one completely unstressed. Similarly Joel is Jo-ul to me. You may prefer a different pronunciation; either way, you might well get irritated with people who don't say it the way you intended.

Other than that, I vaguely think of the name as belonging on a youngish, cool-looking Irishman, but I can't remember where I got that association from.

My lovely friend Noel. Eccentric, funny, handsome, interesting guy in his early 30s.

In my head I sing 'Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the King of Israel!'

And then I remember that it was/is my late father's middle name, despite his Sept birthday.

I think of a beige man wearing beige trousers and a brown and beige stripey jumper. Actually less beige stripes and more horizontal zigzags. Noel also has a greasy combover. Well you did ask!

For some reason it always makes me think of eggs/Humpty Dumpty Hmm then Edmonds, Gallagher, Christmas, then twins I knew called Noel and Leon

I am a fan of Noel G and Noel F and Christmas however it's just a name that I can't warm too.
