Boys shortlist

Went through the top 500 and selected the ones I liked and DH removed the ones he didn't like (ones which sounded to hard edged?!) .

This is our shortlist -would appreciate any opinions. Apparently (coincidentally) a lot of them have been quite common in his family.

My son is called alex and he is the only one in his class and he loves his name.

Out of those I like Alex and Sam best, but I would use Samuel.

John - not doing much for me but inoffensive
Andrew - really like it, especially if nn is Drew
Donald - bloody awful

I love Alex and Sam from your list. Don't really have an opinion on the others they're all ok apart from Donald which unless is used as a middle name AND after a family member is just awful IMO.

I'd go for John or Andrew or David though - there won't be ten other boys of the same name in class when he gets to school.

Alex and Sam. Personally would have these as nicknames but register Samuel and Alexander

James - a true classic & a lovely name which doesn't date, probably my favourite boy's name.
David - really good name, due a revival.
Alex - popular, nice name. I'd go for Alexander on the BC.
John - I find it a bit boring but it would be OK as a middle name.
Andrew - love this. If I'd had another boy I'd have used it.
Donald - the only one on your list I don't like, but I do like Dónal, the Irish version.
Sam - nice as a nickname for Samuel.

I really like the name James out of your list. A lot depends on your surname and how the two go together.
