DD2 due in a couple of weeks and we have a shortlist but nothing feels 'right' yet. Would really welcome your opinions on our list and also any suggestions for names along similar lines. DD1 is Phoebe.

Isabel (always liked but a friend has used recently).
Tabitha (love this but DH doesn't like NNs Tabs or Tabby)
Chloe (was popular a while back, dated now?)
Daphne (love this but a bit granny chic perhaps)
Sylvie (faddy?)
Alice (feels like a safe option)
Rose (ditto)

Other names I like but DH rejected are Jemima, Helena and Madeleine - keen to hear your thoughts on these too in case I can get them back on the list ;-)

Thank you for your help!!!

Thank you everyone for your opinions and suggestions!

Looks like Sylvie and Alice are the front runners followed by Rose and Isabel (quite surprised as thought Isabel being v popular might count it out). Tabitha clearly a bit Marmite and the different pronunciations of Helena are what put us off in the first place so that stays off the list (I say Helen-uh, he says Hel-ayna).

A couple of new ideas have been thrown in - am particularly keen to hear from any Irish MNers on these ones as DH is Irish.

Thea - how likely would this be pronounced Tia?
Stella - apparently this means chav in parts of Ireland??? Confused

Thanks!

Isabel - love it, but it's very popular.
Tabitha - OK for a cat
Chloe - not keen, a bit dated and it's too similar to Phoebe
Daphne - this one has grown on me recently
Sylvie - very pretty
Alice - love it, my favourite of your suggestions & perfect with Phoebe
Rose - love it

Helena - very classy
Jemima - OK, but reminds me of Puddleduck
Madeleine - OK

Love Sylvie so much I want to rechristen my own. Also must put in a vote for Rose as it is dd's middle name and a lovely name at that. Sylvie Rose maybe?

Isabel - Never been too keen on it sorry
Tabitha - Love it but will always make me think of my rather temperamental stripy cat unfortunately!
Chloe - Again never been keen
Daphne - Nice name
Sylvie - I really like this name, very pretty
Alice - Always felt more like a middle name rather than a first IMO, a nice name in general though.
Rose - Feel very safe and a tad bland to me
Jemima - Not at all keen sorry
Helena - I like but don't love
Madeleine - Umming and ahhing. Nice but not too struck on it.

Hope this helps but at the end of the day it's all going to come down to what you feel is right! Good luck :-)

I know of a family with a phoebe and a tabitha. NN tabby, lovely child, but Tabby always makes me think "cat"

On your list, I think Sylvie or Sylvia would work with Phoebe.

If you like Tabitha what about Tallulah? I think Phoebe and Tallulah sounds fab. I like Alice too, but it sounds a bit nondescript next to Phoebe, ditto Rose. Daphne and Phoebe doesn't work. Don't like Isabel

Isabel - V popular but
Tabitha- Bit hippy
Chloe - common and dated
Daphne - undecided
Sylvie - slightly strange
Alice - love it very classic
Rose - lovely
Jemima - not fond
Helena - nice
Madeleine - like but not Maddie

My favourite is Tabitha. Pretty indifferent about the others. If Madeleine gets nn Maddy, she will be another Maddy in the midst of all the Maddison Maddies. Isabel v popular and similar to all the other popular 'belle' type names. Do like Sylvie but would use Sylvia with Phoebe to avoid repeating the 'ee' ending.

Chloe is a lovely choice Smile

Isabel - It's a lovely name, but just too popular
Tabitha - I don't like it, it's too witchy. Tabs and Tabby are both awful.
Chloe - ok, I know a couple of little ones so not too dated
Daphne - makes me think of Frasier or Scooby Doo
Sylvie - I don't like it
Alice - By far the best on your list. Really nice and goes well with Phoebe
Rose - too common, too dull.
Jemima - Puddleduck
Helena - one of those names that will be constantly mispronounced 'Helen-uh' or 'Hel-ay-na'
Madeleine - McCann. Although it's a lovely name and goes well with Phoebe.

How about Harriet, Olivia, Isla, Grace, Elizabeth or Georgia?

Put Helena back on the list

Otherwise Chloé Alice or Rose

You have some beautiful names on your list and I also love Phoebe!

Isabel (lovely but v popular. How close is the friend?)
Tabitha (like but I agree with your DH about the nicknames)
Chloe, Daphne, Sylvie (like pp I'm not sure the e ending works with Phoebe. Not keen on Chloe but do like Daphne and love Sylvie)
Alice (possibly a safe choice but it's a beautiful, classic name and I love it.)
Rose (far less used as a 1st name. What about Rosalind/Rosamund with Rose as a nn to make it feel less 'safe')
Jemima (puddleduck but I still really like it)
Helena (meh, I can only think of an irritating one I knew)
Madeleine (love it)

Of them all my favourites would be Alice, Rosalind (Rose) and Madeleine

Isobel too popular.
Helena, prn Helaina, my fave

I like Daphne or Alice best. Daphne is lovely but wondering if the "E" sound at the end of Phoebe and Daphne is too much?

Otherwise I would say Sylvie but maybe Sylvie as a nn for Sylvia?

In order I would say:

Daphne
Alice
Sylvie
Rose
Isabel
Tabitha
Chloe

Isabel is a lovely name but I probably wouldn't use it so soon after a friend.

Isabel - pretty but massively popular at the mo, which would put me off.
Tabitha - love it - one of my favourites. Also dislike Tabs/Tabby though so souls use nn Kit!
Chloe - dull and somewhat dated now
Daphne/Sylvie - like both of these, but they seem a bit similar to Phoebe.
Alice - lovely; one of the few 'classics' I never tire of- so many great namesakes.
Rose - Ok, a bit on the plain side

Of your rejected picks, I love Helena, so would definitely have this back in the running, along with Tabitha and Alice.
