Have included the NN we would likely use in each case:

Jessica (Jessie/Jess)
Josephine (Josey/Jo)
Madeline (Maddie)

Love Josephine. I know 2 in early 20s, both nn Jose. Jessica and Madeline both pretty but overused in this generation imo.

My name is Jessica and Josey was our 2nd choice for DD born last month. So those two, and def not Madeline.

Jessica and Madeline are my favourites - yes you can spell Madeline that way but personally I prefer the French way - Madeleine.

Josephine is quite nice though, and a bit more unusual.

I like all the names! I guess Josephine is the most original at the moment, I prefer the spelling Josie for the nickname though - I see Josey and think like JOES-ee rather than JO-see. I love Jessica, it's a bit 90s but that doesn't matter really, I live the nickname Jessie. Madeline is pretty, makes me think of the little french girl, Maddie is a cute nickname but fairly common with the Madisons and Madeleines.

Josephine - I'm very fond of it actually

Josephine first, then Madeleine (not Madeline though). Jessica third..

I really, really dislike Jessica. Not sure why exactly - maybe because it has the same sound as the word 'sick' in it.

Madeleine I'm not hugely keen on but it's a little better. Josephine I like - but would go for Posy as a nn.

Josephine/Josie

Not keen on the other two at all.

In my order of preference -
Madeline - association with McCann wouldn't put me off, didn't even think of it till pp mentioned it.
Josephine - classic, lots of nn potential
Jessica - very common! But a nice name

Josephine is my favourite.

The other two are okay.

Josephine - has so many abbreviations and is one you can really string out when you need to!

I dislike Jessica due to 2 people that I know with that name who are not at all nice.

Madeline - I wouldn't.

Madeleine, then Jessica. Both lovely names.

Not so keen on Josephine, it's ok but a bit clunky to my ears/eyes.

They're all lovely, but Josephine is definitely the most versatile when it comes to shortenings/nicknames (Jo, Joey, Josie, Posy, etc), and not as widely used as the others these days, if it would bother you that your DD would have several others with the same name in her class at school (and take it from someone who's name has been in the top 10 since forever, and has consequently always had at least one other person with my name in every single class I've ever been in - it gets very annoying!)

Jessica and Madeleine were both on our short list (the others were Jennifer and Juliet). We went with Madeleine, just because the popularity of Jessica put me off. People are generally not rude enough to mention the McCann association once the baby is here only one exception

Josephine is lovely - my favourite out of your options.

I like Josephine with the nicknames Josie and Posey/Posy
Jessica is nice but very popular
Madeline just reminds me of Madeleine McCann

Yes to Madeleine rather than Madeline, I assumed that was a typo.

The nicknames are some of the reasons I would go against Josephine, Jo is fine, but I really don't like Josie (or Posy or Fifi as pps have suggested).

I know lots of Jessica's. Not my fav name.

I'm not a big fan if Madeline or Maddy.

I like Josephine... Got lots of nn potentials... Jo, Josie, Posy, Fifi, Phiny

.... And it's not popular... Only know my mum with this name!

Madeleine but spelt like this not Madeline.
