Baby names

Vote needed! (We are changing DD's name, need help with the MN's)

DD was named 'Greta Ivy Clementine'

We are changing her name to Flora, she is Already known by this name, suits it,and it is not up for discussion

I need help on whether to ditch Greta completely,or include it with her MN's.
I don't want her to feel like she's lost any of her identity as she gets older, and we rather like it,it was her name when she was a newborn (not that I often used it) so it does have a sentimental element to it, but her name will be incredibly long with it included,as we also have a double barrelled surname.

So,a vote please,if you will;

  1. Flora Ivy Greta Clementine

    Or

  2. Flora Ivy Clementine

    Thanks

Ditch Greta and Clementine

Flora Ivy is perfect, particularly since you have a db surname!

I've never found having 2 middle names annoying at all,and neither has DP.
DP also has a very feminine and unusual first name which he has also never had a problem with.
I think people are often too quick to notice the ones that do have a problem with these sorts of things and not the many who are perfectly happy having long or unusual names.

Anyway, the forms have been sent, she will soon be Flora Ivy Clementine officially Smile I love her 'new' name and it suits her so well.
Thankyou for all your input Thanks

Flory Ivy Clementine is beautiful! My DH has two middle names and finds that annoying when it comes to filling out official forms etc so I certainly wouldn't give a child three middle names.

not keen on either name but if I had to pick one it would have to be Flora

I absolutely do get that you like Greta (I love it, FWIW). If someone told me that they had just named their baby the name that DD originally had, I'd be thinking "what a lovely name", it just wasn't the right one for DD.

Sorry, should have been clearer, I didn't mean you didn't like it, I just meant it isn't the one you love for her.

DD also has a toy that already had her previous name on it, at some point we're going to have to explain that! Grin

brokenhearted there's no need for that. She was going to be Flora before she was born, during labour even, then I panicked after she arrived that she didn't look like a Flora.
I'm not grabbing names out of nowhere.

And we Do like Greta,it's just not her name,it doesn't fit her.

I like that idea River she actually has a favourite teddy that currently has no name.

We are going with Flora Ivy Clementine, thank you all for your input Thanks

I prefer the names in a different order

Flora Clementine Ivy

Why don't you get a special teddy and name that Greta to keep the name? ( build the bear, Steiff etc)

I changed DD's name, I chopped her first name off completely and promoted her middle name to first place.

I'd go with option 2, if you don't like the name enough to call her it, why keep it at all?

Going against the majority here but I do think you need to keep Greta as a middlename personally as it was her name for the first 4 months it does 'belong'to her itswim. The only tune it's really ever going to come up is on her wedding day otherwise when do we go around announcing our mn's?

I think all she will feel is that her parents are a bit daft having had nine months to choose a name then deciding to change it four months later!

I wouldn't have thought she would be bothered about losing Greta so would vote for 2.

I'd say ditch Greta as if you don't want it, you don't want it - that won't be made any better by having it as a middle name. My only thought that'd counter that is if you had initially used the name to honour a relative or some other special person.

Spawning this was my short list from this time around :

Zephyr
Caspar
Ruis (roo-ish,meaning elder tree associated with winter solstice)
Ruben
Otis
Jesse
Digby
Osbert
Faolan (fay-lan,meaning wolf)
Ernest (Ernie)
Orin
Artan

We already have an Arlo.

at Mothergothel

Morgause thanks for the input, but as I mentioned above, the other names are not up for discussion. And both our older DC have 3 names and the double barrelled surname already.

I love Greta but the shorter option flows better.
