Love it as a boys name. I prefer Jess to Jessie for a girl anyway!

I agree with everyone else. I love it as a boy's name.

Love it as a boy name.....it was what we were going to call DD if she was a boy...it makes me sad I will NEVER be able to use that name now if there was a ds.

Dd is called nancy

Were northern. We could never have a nancy and a Jesse. It's just cruel

dobedobedo and Noddy
I have a Jesse as well - some of the comments about being a big Jesse etc are baffling - by 'grown ups' as well.
It's a great name and I have never regretted using it for a moment.
I also don't understand the thing about only 'hearing' it and expecting a girl. Could the same not be said for Sam, Robyn, Rowan, Charlie etc

I doubt anyone ever bullied that big girls' blouse Jesse James.

I always think of it as a bit girly

I like Jess for a boy too ( Gilmore girls fan!)

It's a boys name, I'd never call a girl Jesse, with that spelling.

I love Jesse and I asked my 14 and 11 yr old boys if they thought it was a name that would lead to teasing, they both looked baffled and said no, turns out there is a Jesse in ds1's yr and he doesn't get teased.

My poor bullied burdened Jesse is currently asleep in the room next door with 3 of his uni mates I wonder how he got so popular and happy with such an unfortunate name. on the plus side you dont meet too many. None ever throughout school

I'm due in 3 weeks with a boy, and he's going to be called Jesse. I love the name! (and I'm half Scottish).

I've read a lot of mn threads on Jesse for a boy name, out of curiosity, and those who have a child called Jesse or know one say that bullying is never an issue.

It's the older fuddyduddies generation who have a problem with it. And tbh if an older person wants to ridicule a child with a perfectly normal, timeless name, it says a lot more about them than the child.
And anyway, it's very backward to ridicule a name (or a hair style or a toddler playing with a toy doll) because it seems "feminine" or "gay". So fucking what? What's wrong with that?

I've read a couple of times that only parents who are comfortable in their own skin could give such a "controversial" (ha!) name to a child. Stands to reason that the child would end up comfortable in his own skin as well. Good. That way he'll laugh off some cantankerous old bastard calling him a "big Jessie!"

I have a 9 year old ds, and him and all his friends think Jesse is such a cool name. When asked why he might be teased in school, the only thing they could come up with was "messy Jesse". Kids are cruel, eh? Wink

Jesse is a boys name. I know an adult male Jesse who is an architect. He's lovely.

Jessica is the girls name, shortened to Jessie but it looks awfully dated as a "boys" girls name IMO, like Samantha or Melanie or Antonia (Sam, Mel and Toni)

Boy name and I really like it actually. But I do think of it as quite American.

Great name but particularly for boys.

There are quite a few American actors called Jesse, and I think it will become a popular boys' name.

Jesse - boy
Jessie - girl

I do find myself imagining a blonde surfer guy from Australia or California (too much home and away/American programmes), but that's not a terrible thing.

Jesse is a nice boys name, but the sad fact is that there are more lady jessies being born (and more famous ones) in the UK than there are jesses. So unless you are planning to move to the US, its a bit of a burden to put on a child.

I'm in New Zealand and it's a very popular boys name here - at least among people I know. Smile

I know it is a boys name, and a fairly popular one on here, but to me it is just too feminine and definitely sounds very American (not that that's necessarily bad, but as you asked!).

I'm about as far from Scotland as you can get, but I have heard people say "you big Jesse" to mean wimp, and tbh that's what I think of when I hear the name for a boy. Though I love Jessica/Jessie for a girl!

Definitely a boys name, I love it. Was considering it for DS but chickened out because I was worried about bullying
