What do you think about Emmet?

Loved it when we decided on it, but as DS's arrival draws nearer (due in Feb), I am getting nervous about our choice. We want something friendly but strong, and not too common. Ugh, I think I've thought too much about it and now I can't get a fresh head, if you know what I mean.

It's an OK name, it does immediately make me think of Keeping Up Appearances, but I doubt your DS will be too bothered about that!

It's not one I would choose myself but it's not awful.

You may find people automatically assume Twilight fan. But if that doesn't bother you, it won't be an issue. I wanted Bella for a while but didn't want the "oh because of twilight?" every time I met someone!

I automatically think of Robert Emmet and I quite like it, know a fair few Irish men with this name. None of them weak or effeminate.

Just depends what your associations are I suppose.

I'd wager that very few people of your son's generation will come across Hyacinth Bucket though, whereas Back to the Future will always be a classic.

I like it, see it as very American (quite popular there). I've only ever seen it spelt with two t's at the end though.
