Looking for an unusual but not too daft name for our dc3. Can easily come up with a load of girls names we both love but no luck with boys.

It would be a baby brother for Clover and Asa. Little Story? We also like but don't love Dasheill and Joss...

Cosmo never been on the list, Beeyup. Already know a couple of them and I don't particularly like the name (nothing wrong with it though, surely?).

I like Fable but definitely do think of that as a girls name. It sounds soft and a bit delicate.

MumtoJackie - thanks for the suggestions but not keen on Levi or Storm.

Errol - Not so fond of Idris as I think it lacks sparkle. Like Ira though.

Joss is my favourite today.

Ira can be male or female - the one I always think of is Ira Gershwin. Another with a similar vibe but less androgynous might be Idris.

OP, I didn't mean to make fun of you, it's that I think Idea would be a great name, but DH and I have ended up going for more traditional options (specially because we needed names that would work in different languages).

I think Cosmo is very cool, and Nelson is pretty retro, in a nice way.

Bundaberg - how extraordinary that we have such similar tastes. Not as original as I thought I was! I LOVE Gabriel but dh doesn't agree (spoil sport). From your list I like Beau and love Joss. We know a couple of Sebastians, little boy called Cosmo lives round the corner. I like Skyler, again, dh being awkward.

One of my favourite William Boyd books, Any Human Heart features a character called Land and I like it. Anyway, no more girls for me so neither here nor there...

Mrs West - Winter is nice (but he is due in April).

Errol - Ira is a good shout, I will suggest it. I wonder if it sounds girly? Maybe I am thinking of Ida. I don't mind adults taking the piss out of my name choices. Much rather I call my children a name that I love and means something to me and is different than choose from the pool of 5 boys names which are commonly used in our neighbourhood.

Soon tobe - Dh LOVES Nelson, I am less convinced.

Pancake - good suggestion but a friend has a (girl) Aria.

Equals - thanks for the suggestion but not wild on Saga. Doesn't make a nice sound.

Shroed - Idea isn't terrible but I am not looking for a random word. Thanks though!

I couldn't help thinking about MN baby names threads when reading a bit of The Hogfather to DD last night - something like '...Gawain and Twyla, who had been named by parents who presumably loved them...'

That's the point of these threads isn't it? If a bunch of adults take the piss out of a proposed name, it may not go down well in the playground.

BTW, the only Leif I've known was a Dane, he was pronounced 'Life' not 'Leaf' which wouldn't be naff with Clover.
