Baby names

Traditional yet rare (or Irish) - that standard MN request!

Have obviously namechanged for this!

I am four months pregnant and have had a bit of a rough ride (just minor health stuff, but enough to drag you down) this pregnancy. I'm trying to get excited so I'm turning my attention to names!

I am totally stuck and would love some inspiration. I have a Margaret (family names in the middle). I know it's a bit of a marmite name, but I adore it.

I'd like similar suggestions for this baby if anyone fancies helping out. I'm after names that are 'known' but not common (There were only about 70 Margarets in England and Wales the year she was born I think, it can be more popular than that, but ideally not top 100). Preferably fairly traditional, or alternatively Irish (with easy English spellings).

For girls, I am not fond of 'frilly' names, I'd like something strong sounding. In an ideal world, not ending -ella, -ia, i.e. (though I like Hermione).

For boys, I like things like Timothy, Peter, David, etc (though some of those are discounted as the names of family) or biblical names. On the Irish side, I love Seamus, but DH vetoed it last time. I don't really like surname names personally, so would rule those out.

Anyone feeling creative with all those rules?

Hi all,
I am expecting a December baby (possibly arriving on Christmas day). For a boy, I quite like the name Nicholas, but given the season (St Nick, Santa Claus, etc), is Nicholas a bit lame? Will he be made fun of? Thanks for your honesty and any other name suggestions most welcome (boy or girl).

Basically, I am looking for a straight-forward Enlgish name that is suitable as a child, teenager, and adult.

THANKS!

Don't do the orlaith one from experience its been a nightmare!! Or late seems to be the most common pronunciation of her name so despite my Irish upbringing I have just about resigned myself to letting her use orla and say its the shorter way to spell her name

I saw a good girls name on Pointless the other day (!): Enfys, pronounced Envis. I thought it was pretty without being too girly

Bridget: my paternal grandmother, from Derry (shortened to Bridie, which is a Scottish word for a pie! Grin)
Rosaleen (Roisin in Gaelic): one of my friends from Galway. I love that name. It's pretty, but not too sweet.
Aisling: DSis's partner, from Mayo. Love this name too.

For boys, I'm with you on Seamus - that's a brilliant name. What about Malachy? If you're going biblical, I like Joseph and Peter.
