Barley?

Hi,

I once met a young girl called Barley and I thought it was a beautiful name and really suited her. I have always kept it at the back of my mind thinking maybe to use for dd3 if we have another girl this time...

But how does it come across to you? Old, posh, chavy, plain odd? And do you like it?

My DH had a retriever called Barley. To me it definitely sounds like a pets name, as well as a crop of course.

It grows in fields round here. It's a crop, not a name.

To me, it is a grain or (possibly) a surname. Never a first name for a little girl. Also, people will mishear it as 'Barney'.

We had a cat called Barley as well. A boy cat.

If you love the name then you should use it. It is unusual and you are certain not to have five other Barley's in her class. Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

Well, Daisy is a nickname for Marguerite/Margaret so that's not a good example.

I know a Barley, she's a lovely salt of the earth type with 2 teenage daughters. It's a lovely, if unusual, name. If you like it, go for it.

In my Scottish accent it sounds absolutely nothing like Bailey or Bali, you couldn't possibly confuse them.
I think it's a nice sound but a bit too odd for me.
