DP and me have been trying to short list our favourite baby names and so far mutual favourite boys names are Lewis and Edward!
I can't decide which I like more!

I like either Edward or Louis (pronounced loo-ee), but not keen on Lewis I'm afraid.

Both names are very nice and pretty. By the both names meaning is very good. But Lewis then better sounds Edward. I prefer Lewis.

It's the Scots who use Lewis.

Louis is pronounced Lou-is in Germany, Holland, Scandinavia and in the US (city of St Louis in Missouri).

Only in France is it pronounced Lou-ee. But more and more English seem to prefer the French way. Not everyone will though.

Personally I prefer Lewis - that avoids any ambiguity in pronunciation.

Frangepani Louis and Lewis are totally different. The pronunciation is not the same.
Lewis is nice enough but Louis is way preferable

Edward!
My youngest son is Edward,he loves his name as now he's older has discovered lots of famous pirates were actually called Edward! And kings! Not forgetting one of Thomas the Tank engine's friends also....
We wondered if the name might be too well used, but he's the only Edward in his primary school.
I also like it as it's a name used by people from all walks of life
Plus there are lots of shortened versions of the name, which could vary through his life.

I like both names but being Scottish would probably choose Lewis (with that spelling, as in the surname and the island). I know some posters have suggested spelling it 'Louis' but that might cause confusion over the pronunciation. Edward goes well with Lewis as a middle name.

Edward is lovely with lots of great nicknames too.

I really dislike Lewis, but love Louis, pronounced Louie.

Or similar... Laurie short for Lawrence.
