I like Francis but don't like Franklin at all. Or Theodore for that matter.

I love Francis or Frank
Not so fond on Frankie for a boy but love it for a girl

Oops just seen how old this thread is!

Frankie is awful imo.

Franklin’s ok, better as a middle name.

Did you go with Franklin in the end? It’s my top name at the moment and was wondering what you think of it all these years down the line :)

I Love it!

I like it. The " lin " sound makes me think it could easily be a unisex name, like Robin, as matter of interest, not a negative though.

Definitely should go with Franklin X. Surname when their name is written out, though, so cool!

I prefer Francis, or just plain Frank.

I'm 99% sure that he will be Franklin with Frankie for short. We are thinking of middle names. Really want him to take DH first name as a middle name but he doesn't like it!

A friend of mine named her son franklin nn frankie. I wasn't sure at first but now I love it as you don't hear of it often. It never crossed my mind re Roosevelt or came across as over American. I think it's lovely.

I quite like it, and I don't normally like surname-y names. Makes me think of Franklin Blake from The Moonstone, which is a good association.

I think of D Roosevelt or surname.

I like it. Was on my list but DH not overly keen. I also liked Theodore as well though so not sure I'm a good example of avoiding the "as in Roosevelt" connection Grin

Nice. Unusual, but not not difficult to spell, or too way out.

Love it. Was on our list for a boy.

Lovely, my DS2 wears it well Wink. We haven't shortened it yet though, and we've had no issue about people asking about namesakes, only happened once (by a recently married in Uncle of DH who didn't know it was a family name and thought we'd named him after Benjamin Franklin Confused ). Only problem we've had is multiple healthcare/HVs keep writing it down as Franklyn, with a y, keep having to correct it at the GP, which seems quite odd.

I like it, unusual but not out there, lots of nickname possibilities, go for it :)

I think Franklin is a lovely name

I like it. It's unusual, but not too "out there".

(My DSis had a book called "Franklin and the messy pigs" when we were growing up. It's a lovely book so I have nice associations with the name.)

I have a Franklin, we intended to call him Frankie but mostly call him Frankels, it's an awesome name! We hoped it would be versatile enough to carry him through life with an appropriate name - Frankie when he's small, Frank when he's a bit older, etc. Do it!!!
