Baby girl due in 3 days, still no name. Help!

I'm struggling to find "the one". Ideally I'd like something which goes with DS's name, which we love. DS's name is:

  • Celtic (our DCs have have strong Scottish & Welsh heritage, and also Irish if you go a bit further back).

  • pre-Christian

  • has an interesting story attached

  • is not a top-100 name

DD's name doesn't have to meet all (or any!) of those criteria, but it'd be nice if it did.

Probably totally outing myself as a hippy at heart! But I have this image of her as a windswept, independent young girl standing on a hill, out in the elements, leaning into the wind (no idea where this image came from, but it's persisted in my head while pregnant). I also had a dream in which her name was Estelle, and also Star. I wouldn't use either of these in RL, but the meaning star is nice.

Back to reality, we had a 4D scan. She looks like her brother - very full lips. When I saw her the word "rosebud" pupped into my mind, although this is not something I'd use in RL.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'm desperately curious too! I really liked the OP's description of what she wanted in a name, and I'd love to know what was picked in the end Smile

What did you end up calling your daughter, auf, come back and tell us :D

I'm sure this has already been settled, but I just wanted to share this. My daughter's middle name was to be Kathleen. During my c-section, the OB was handing her to the nurse and said, "Look at that little pink face. Just like a rosebud." Well, I'm sure this has been said plenty of times, but it was part of such a sweet moment that my husband and I immediately started calling her Rosebud. Her middle name is Rose, not Kathleen, and she remains Rosie to the entire family. She will periodically ask to hear the rosebud story, even at the age of 13. I'm glad she loves her name.

I like Rosamund and Rosalind of the 'rose' names.

I think it's great that you like Mari, easy spelling and pronunciation and if you are in Wales it will be obvious. It's just I know several variegated Mhairis and even in Scotland they are asked to spell/ pronounce it, like every single time. Mostly people assume it is Marie. Or that Mhairi is pronounced Varry, except sometimes it isn't. And sometimes Mairi is pronounced Mar- eye.etc. Just saying you'd have to really, really think it perfect for your LO to saddle her with all that.

If you can hang on long enough the Lyrid meteor shower is due, if you still, like that name. Aster is another star name and a flower. Ianthe is another nice flowery name. I like Rosa and Rosaline too.

Of the Celtic-ey names I think Niamh, Aisling, Iseult, Arwen, Tara, Oona and Bronte fit nicely.

But perhaps she will be a Jane when she arrives Grin. Best of luck. I know how pants it is to be overdue.

How about Meredith? I think it's Welsh? Means 'from the sea', I think. Not quite pre-Christian though

MineOrk "PS Mairi/Mhairi/Marie/Varry will not thank you for it ..." Why do you say that? Am I missing something obvious? (perfectly possible!)

twinklestar2 thanks :) I love Mari too. DP loves Mhairi, reckon we might be at an impasse on that one!

Thanks everyone for the replies, having a think.

(Still no sign of baby girl!)
