I prefer Angela!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Tess of the d'Urbevilles
Boy's name
For a girl - no way

Angela
Angelica
Angelina are all OK, but not Angel. As bad as Princess, or if you are superstitious, a child who is no more.

I think of a Hispanic man when I hear this.

My uncle had American neighbours called Randy and Sindy. Their DD was called Angel, she was anything but!!

It's a predominantly boys name, an I wouldn't choose it for a girl.

I love Angeli....DD was at nursery with a lovely little Anglei. Not sure of it's origin, though.

Angelina. ... I knew a lovely girl with Italian parents called this! (Unhelpful!)

Report
Sashapineapple · 12/02/2013 20:24

No. I think it sounds a bit cheap and chavvy in English. It does sound nice as a Spanish boys name.

I know some middle class hippies who called their DD Angel. They pronounce it with a French accent. I am not making this up.

It would be a great name for a male vampire.

MrsApplepants · 12/02/2013 20:05

No it's a boy's name. And also a stripper's name. Sorry.

Terrible.

GetOrf · 12/02/2013 17:35

I always think of' it as a boy's name, based on Tess of the d'Urbervilles and Jilly Cooper's Polo. Grin

No, anyway.

Terrible name.

Anyone remember a character on home & away called Angel? Played by Melissa George before she got famous. Blush

Wewereherefirst · 12/02/2013 17:32

Angel is a boys name IMO.

Nope. I apply the High Court Judge test - could you imagine your daughter being a high court judge (or the prime minister, or something equally important) with that name.

Angel fails for me on that one.
