Very over used at the moment, how about Eliza or Eloise? Similar but not as common as the other two.

If I have to choose, Bella. Belinda is a cool name.

Ella wins because of Ella Fitzgerald.

My DD's name is shortened to Ella, but much to my DS's annoyance I call her Ella Bella Big Bum Grin so in short I love them both.

Eleanor and Isabelle are both lovely, but live, love, love Mirabel.

I prefer Bella, it is just that little bit more unusual.

Also in Greek "Ella" means 'come' - it's a rude way of calling to someone 'ella, ella'. I lived in Greece and heard it a zillion times.

Estelle is the newborn crown princess of Sweden. Lovely name! What about Mirabella?

Ella, but like Stella best of other suggestions (biased).

They're both overused, in all honesty. Do you have a third or forth option in mind?

I too think of Bella Emburg - it makes me think plump and plain. So Ella is better but it's everywhere.

Ella I think. But I consider both of them nicknames rather than "proper" names, and would go for Isabella or Eleanor myself.

Ella.

Bella is a bossy Tweenie!

TidyDancer · 08/02/2013 20:05

Bella is too nickname-ish for me. It's most commonly seen as a NN for Isabella. Ella is pretty and more of a name in its own right (not that Bella isn't, but is certainly more often a nickname).

Under my umbr-Ella Ella Ella etc... Bella, for me...Grin

Report
YellowAndGreenAndRedAndBlue · 08/02/2013 20:02

Bella is a tweenie, so Ella wins by default.

Not keen on either but of the two Ella . If you call Bella in a park near here you'd be mobbed by Labradors.

Ella.

It's a shame but when I hear Bella now I automatically think Twilight.

For some reason I think Bella sounds like a dogs name?!

Ella is a bit meh.

Liking Stella or Estelle
