Oh, and I know a Simon, sisters are Emma, Susan and Marianne (Annie) they are Brits. Dad has an Irish name that is difficult for non-Irish to pronounce so wanted straightforward names for the kids.

They sound cutting edge don't they!

In the US we were surrounded by families and the names included Parker, Margaret, Bridget, Jack, Miles, Claire and Owen - this was 4 years ago everyone was under 12, most under 7.

Both my DCs first and middle names have appeared on this thread, as has the girls name we've picked for DC3.

I'm either hopelessly unfashionable when it comes to names, or a trendsetter. I fear it may be the former.

Oh I have a Peter. I've always loved it since I was about 12! Just a good strong name.

I know of a baby Elizabeth - that's a great name too.

My name keeps cropping up as do a lot of names from school. (Born in 1972, at secondary school from 1983 to 1988).

Martin, Michael, Andrew, Stuart, Paul, Phillip,Gary and Nigel were popular boys names in my youth and not so popular anymore.

Joanne was very popular in my school days, along with Julie. Always had one or two of them in my classes.

What i would class as older man names are ones like Maurice (Mo for short),Geoffrey, Douglas, Reginald, Noel,Ernest, Herbert, Roland, Victor and Norman - I wonder when these will make a come back.

Other girls/ladies names not so popular include Andrea, Pauline, Alma, Wilma, Gwendolyn, Thelma, Gillian, Edna, Myrtle, Eileen,Sally and Norma.

My Dad's called Roy! It's definitely cool! (Although Dad is 75). When we lived in Bermuda in the 60s people often called him 'Royston' as they assumed it was short for that. (It's just Roy, I'm afraid).

I know a few parents who have given their children family names, mainly gp names. We have Frank and Margaret - you don't hear those much! And their siblings were Malcolm, Doris, Rhoda, Peter and Herbert. Peter is the only one I have encountered recently.

But 10 years ago I wouldn't have believed I would know 3 Alfies, 3 Lilys, scads of Noahs...

I know a young Malcolm ( although in Scotland it's more of a classic name as we had King Malcolm), a young Alison ( again a more traditional name up here, was in the top 100 in 1900), a young Ian, Samantha, Claire, Suzanne, Ruth, Graeme, Daryl, Brian, Joanna, Jennifer, and a 20 year old Marjorie. That is just in one ( very non trendy) village.

I think I actually quite like Peter now actually - always thought it was a bit meh but it sounds quite nice to me now.

I just cannot envisage a baby Malcolm and mums calling for "Malc" across the park.

I nearly died when DH suggested Barbara for DD2 12 years ago but now I can actually see some charm in it - still not convinced I would choose it though. Its another one of those names I struggle to picture a toddler or teenager owning. Although wonder if she would become Babs or god forbid Barbie.

I quite like Betty as well - are there many of those around???

Dont know why I am on about names - my baby making days are long gone.

I've got a Graham, Peter and Patricia in my class, these are the new 'grandparent' names. The ones you don't hear yet are the names from our Generation.
