My friend's mum used to use Penny to refer to our lady bits when we were little girls so it is a no-no for me. The same friend's mum now has a dog called Penny and was mortified when I pointed out her dog is called "Lady Bits"

I love it.

I also have to tell you this, though it may out me. For several years I taught a quite angry teenager who was genuinely called Penny Lane. She hated it, bless her.

I'm called Penelope and I do like it. Am not in PTA (expecting first baby next month so maybe one day) do have a decent job and am only a little bit mad but am blaming pregnancy hormones! My family call me Penel which I love, friends call me Penny, Penn or Pen. Have lived overseas and works well in Europe too.

Dog's name, sorry. Penelope is good though, just don't like the shortening.

It is a sweet gentle name.

All the Pennys I've known have been mad as a box of frogs.

It's a good name.

Love Penelope, but I just can't seem to like Penny. I get all the head girl/PTA woman associations too. And Penny Crayon, who was a right tit.

I would choose Penelope as the proper name though. It's so elegant and classy. If its PTA mumsy it would definitely need to be a grammer school. Penny/ Pen are very cute as a nickname

NOT PENNY'S BOAT

I like it. It has a kind of Enid Blyton vintagey feel to it. (Definitely not a bossy PTA type at all.)

Agree Penny is better as a nickname for Penelope.

And I could never think of Penny as a jolly PTA mum after watching all of Big Bang Theory many many times.

Agree with TidyDancer. I love Penny as a nickname, but it is a nickname, not a name. Would go for Penelope and shorten it. I also know a grown up Penny who is very head girl-ish, though lovely too!

Find a penny, pick it up and all day long you'll have good luck

Penny is a jolly PTA mum with a sensible bob and a mock-wrap top from Next who always has a handy-pack of tissues in her bag.

I think it is quite wrong for a little girl. And also horrid.

Penelope is ok.

It's really sweet, but I think I would go for Penelope and use Penny as a nickname.
