I think Myra evokes strong reaction because it's not a 'mainstream' name, so to speak.
We all grew up with lots of Ian's around, so it hasn't got the same connotations ...
(and yes, I know it was a typo, I'm just answering the earlier question Wink)

I love Maya/Maia Hope

No - I'm ashamed to say I haven't yet - though I have joined the FB group .

I feel suitably shamed enough to go and buy it now, though!!

Thread hijack - thereisalight - have you bought Mozza's new single yet? There is a FB campaign to get him his first no1.

It's a shame how that can happen with names. Still I read on here not so long ago that someone MIL had an issue with Joseph (as in Stalin) - I think it depends how popular the name is to start with. I mean the name 'Ian' doesn't provoke the same reaction, when, in theory, it could/should.

I love the name Myra but felt it was a bit too much like calling a boy Adolf. Luckily I also love the Philip Pullman books so I have a Lyra Lucille instead.

I would avoide the Myar spelling of this name for that reason though - typos. Maya/Maia are my preferred spellings. If you spell it 'Mia' people possibly won't pronounce it how you want.

Myra Hindley was one of the Moors murderers in the 1960s. The other was Ian Brady.

Sorry - I re-read and realised it was a typo.

(As an aside, one of my midwives for last DC was named Myra)

You really can't choose Myra.

The others are really pretty, but please, no to Myra.

I put all the different spellings, so people wouldn't suggest other spellings to me. The sound is essentially the same, sorry for any confusion, obviously my favourite spelling is mya or maia, and it was just middle names I wanted suggesting.

Thankyou lazycow007, my other half really likes that.

Sounds like Mylar which is a type of plastic. I think it'll be a long time before Myra becomes popular!
