Sorry i know this thread is old but my daughters name is Bracken. I love the name and so does my daughter. I wouldn't change it.

Agree with everyone else about horses and dogs. And if you were to use it for a child, I think it is more of a girl's name.

It's a dogs name.

But then that's what my grandma said about my name when my mum told her what they were calling me.

I once met sisters called Poppy and Bracken. Always thought it was a bit daft I'm afraid, and I'm sure they much have got lots of stick - just like the brothers Moss and Bracken mentioned above.
Moral seems to be that if you do use it, refrain from using any other vegetation related names!

What about Brock?

I love Brock. Not so keen on Bracken though.

Imagine yourself in the park. Someone yells "BRACKEN!!!!"

How many legs would you assume the person coming running up will have?

Similar sound, different associations.

I would like to come to the defence of bracken. it's not a weed. it's a native moorland plant and it's rather lovely. I see it change colour with the seasons from my door. and my dog loves borrowing around in it. and birds nest in it.

but it's only a good name if you have four legs.

Always wanted to call a ginger cat Bracken.

It would be OK if it wasn't a traditional name for springer spaniels.
