Oooooooooh, I have just made candles with 10% oils and they really are as good as Diptyque/Jo Malone

First time I've ever made candles and I wanted really smelly ones as I like dead posh ones

I made Amber and Lavender (my fave Jo Malone fragrance) and Lime and Fig.

I used soy wax so environmentally friendly and no paraffin and bought tea cups from charity shops so no waste, the ones I've made are actually giant french pottery cups that I got today.

The french cups worked out at £5.40 each as none of the stuff I bought was cheap. Not cheap as chips and if you used paraffin and cheap oils you could make it a lot cheaper. But one heck of a lot cheaper than posh candles.

Dead chuffed me and my home smells lovely.

I have another 15 oils to try - guess what everyone is getting for Christmas this year

@LadyLyndon

This zombie thread is timeless. And priceless. I will be never spend £38 on a candle again.

Questions:

Diffuser oil - any recommendations or will almond oil be OK?

Scents: I have some old perfume that I don’t wear. Can I add near EDC / Parfum to my melted wax?

Fragrance scents: has anyone checked the Phthalate content of these? Is there a list?

No. You cannot add edt or perfume to wax.
You need candle safe fragrance oils. Look on scent perfique website. Most waxes will hold a maximum of 10% fragrance.
For reed diffusers you need to read the ifra documentation. Many oils cannot be used in diffusers, others are at less than 5%, other are up to 25%. You can use augeo as a base. Make sure your use a mask and gloves when using neat fragrance oils .

Still want to make their candles though! Ghost candles! Shall call the scent,’echoes of the past’..

I tried making candles & they weren't that good. I've ordered a base for reed diffusers & going to try that with essential oils, but will browse oasis as would like some sting scent throw so if they have premixed oil, sounds good.

If anyone has any tips for diy Reed diffuser mix, I'd be very grateful. Thinking ahead to perfecting them as a gift for mil & sil for Christmas

Bumping this thread again, as I think I am going to try making a candle....!

I have ordered an oil from Oasis Oils that is apparently a total dupe for Baies by Diptyque - I actually bought it to diffuse in my vacuum cleaner (I always put a bit on a cotton ball/bit of paper towel and suck it into the vacuum and it works so well) but now I'm wondering if I could make a candle? Baies is my all time favourite candle fragrance ever, but I just can't justify nearly 50 quid on a candle!

Just bought my first candle making kit from //www.scentssoapsandcandles.co.uk and can't wait to get started candle making. Will hopefully relieve some of the boredom.

For oils, scent perfique, NI candle supplies and candle shack are the best by a mile. Diptique Baies you can get from Oasis oils.

Just reviving this post.
Went to a ( not very good) candle making course but I want to get started and I’m wondering if people would share their fave fragrance oil suppliers? I’ll be honest, I want to copy diptyque especially the fig and the baies, which I think is black currant + rose.

Bumping this to keep it alive. I have soya wax that is about three years old (that is how long I have been meaning to make my own candles Blush having read this thread nearly a decade ago) - will it still be OK?

Whilst experimenting is good, there is a lot of online information- taking the wick is great and a little reading will save you a lot of time

Hello! Is anybody still watching this thread?
I was inspired to make candles after reading this.... I've used beeswax but my wicks burn too quickly and go out before the scent can be released! Any tips on which kinds of wicks to use and where I can get them from? Thanks!
Also - how do you measure the amount of scented oil to put in to make it a '10%' candle?
:-) x

sun and sand I saw mentioned back, one of my favorite smells if anyone has been able to recreate it! I'm about to have a trawl of the internet to see if anyone has create anything similar to diptyqye - a girl can hope!

Have a look on the Taking the Wick forum, lots of hints and tips there . Suppliers wise go to Full Moons Cauldron or David Constable. Good luck.

Does anyone know if there are any materials that you shouldn't make candles in? Terracotta etc?
