I'm on etsy and wondered if anyone else that had used etsy or one of the other sites wanted to have a thread about it.

or I'll just hang around talking to myself....

I sell on Folksy, though in reality I have sold very little there. Infact, I havetaken the products off the shop as some where lip balms andthey have changed what you can sell, soap is fine, balms, bath bombs etc are not (though I can;t make bath bombs for love nor money)

I do sell on NOTHS and it has been good for me. Not the hundreds of orders that I was expecting, but certainly enough that it keeps me ticking over and I've had many repeat custom which is brilliant.

Pricing? God, that's a hard one. I've seen sellers on ebay and folksy selling soap at £1.50/£1.99. Take of the cost of the ingredients, paypal fees, seller fees ect, tiy are left with next to nothing. Why bother?

Here's a great article on costings and it does make you realise that you need to get it right, and that you shouldn;t be afraid to charge the price your product is worth.

Hi Suzy - yes, it happens quite a lot apparently, I felt I had to say no on this occasion because having just started out I'm not in a position to donate at the moment :(

I just found this link for all those looking to 'shop local' and be able to then narrow down by location AND product:

www.searchlocaletsy.com/

Its fab!

Come join me on

facebook

I'll come have a look at your shops too when I get out the bath!

Ooh, I'm on Etsy and have been for a couple of years now. I've got two shops: one selling bags and cushions made from vintage fabric and another selling repurposed vintage jewellery. I don't make a living from it but love doing it!

I tried Folksy but didn't like the interface so decided to stick with Etsy as I much prefer it.

If anyone's interested, I'm missmarmaladeuk and PiccadillySunshine Smile

FluffyCut, I haven't received an email like this. Did you find out more about it?

Hello all,

I know you can have an Etsy "shop" on Facebook, just wondering whether Folksy offer this yet - does anyone know?

I have a Dawanda and Folksy shop, and also my own website

www.frogsandsprogs.com/index.htm

I had an Etsy shop but have closed it, it's just too big and there are too many people selling similar items, also I simply couldn't compete with the US prices. My shops are closed at the moment as DS2 was born prematurely in February and has spent 5 months in hospital, but I'm hoping to open again in a month or so as things calm down again a bit.

I have sold quite a bit on Dawanda but all in Germany - it helps if you can list your shop items in German and/or French as especially the German one is very active. If you have your listings translated make sure you don't use one of the translating websites, there is nothing worse than having a description that's full of mistakes.

I have done a lot of craft and gift fairs and usually sell much better there than on my own website. Website sales have often been through people that know me or are returning customers, but it's still important to have a web presence somewhere.

middymoo and Again - you can search in the search box for say 'bags uk' or 'furniture uk' if you just 'shop local' it will bring up all shops in the uk say but i don't think you can then narrow for say 'bags', so best thing to do is search in the main box 'uk bags'.

I have an etsy shop here and you can also join my facebook fan page:

here

I also have some of my brooch photos on my profile if you want to take a look Smile

I've been on etsy for a short while and have had a few sales so I'm happy to answer any questions. Am off out shortly for a walk with dd but will be back later.

Is it possible to search by location on etsy? I like some of the furniture, but don't fancy shipping it back from the US

I think it is hard to sell handmade things on the internet unless they are very unique or quirky as it is difficult to show the quality of things.

I sell artwork and felted things at craft fairs but haven't got going on the internet yet. Customers keep asking if I have a webshop so I suppose I had better sort it out.

Love the mosaic.

I've just opened my Folksy shop.

I've got 2 people who like my shop apparently.

Are they just random people or moderators or what?

I'm on Folksy and Etsy selling artwork, though haven't sold much on either - partly my own fault I think as I don't make the effort to promote sufficiently - also I'm struggling at present to find the time to make anything - all very frustrating!

How are all you crafters doing?

Big bombshells in my world so looks like DD and I will be moving back to UK.
I had wanted to spend Aug designing and making samples for Autumn/Winter but instead I am packing boxes.

But I've had a couple of sales so not all bad.

Does anyone do seasonal lines - Halloween, Chritmas etc? And if you do how long in advance to you plan?

Just had a quick look, can you search for example - for bags in the UK. I can search on all shops in UK but can't seem to find where you can search for an item in the UK. Thanks.

Can anyone tell me, as a buyer on Etsy, can you search for only those items in the UK?

I have an etsy shop. here and have sold 22 items there which isn't alot but I don't craft for the money I craft for the love of crafting.. I have paintings, jewellery and sewn items in my shop. I did try Folksy but never sold a single thing on there so shut the shop and stuck with etsy. I would say I have gotten sales via my blog and twitter in equal measure.. oh and a sale through flickr too which I'm quite pleased about. I don't make a profit though all the moeny I make goes straight back into trying other crafts or getting new beads/fabric.
