He's too young, isn't he? Or am I being precious? He's just turned 4.

YANBU. I did let my 4yo DS watch it, but only the bits with the dinosaurs roaming etc (he us a dino freak) etc, I strategically fast forward the gory bits with hands over his eyes!

DS has seen about 10 minutes of the Potter movie. He really didn't like it so he hasn't watched anymore.

To close/real for him I think and if there is one theme that will upset him it is parents/Mums getting hurt and dying. He loved Percy Jackson the other day, except for the bit where the Mum was in danger, but then that was OK cause Percy was going to rescue her.

Iknow this is about a different film; but when was minding a 4yrold DD. I came in to find her watching the 1st Harry potter DVD .

She then had bad nightmares for weeks. I would not have allowed her to watch . 'cos I think the parental guidance means something . it was obvious that her parents didn't think so.

DS watched it when he was about 4ish - depends on the kid, wasn't scared. Except for that scene in the sequel where the T-rex is in the back garden. He didn't like that. I think he was fine with dinos on a island somewhere but wasn't too keen on the thought that they could turn up at home. I told him a T-rex wouldn't fit in our yard in any case.

Is obsessed with dinosaurs and has been since about 3ish when he discovered DH's old dino toys.

He loves Primeval as well, and cracked me up the other day with "You don't expect to find velociraptors in a shopping centre, do you mummy?"

My 4 year old twin girls adore Jurassic Park, and think the best bit is where the man on the toilet gets eaten...heehee!

You do know that I'm going to have to google space docking now, don't you.
And then delete the history so that Mr Shockers doesn't get any funny ideas.

I think it's a bit scary for a 4 year old. I love it, it's my favorite film (thank god for Internet anonymity ) but bits still make me jump - that bit where the woman finds the bloke's arm. And the bit where the fat man gets attacked by the little squirting dinosaurs actually.

Mind you, I'm the woman who walked out of 'gremlins' at age 9 cos it was too scary. And don't get me started on watching se7en when I was 20!

I watched it when I was a kid - can't remeber how old, but I can still remember being terrified at the kitchen bit!

Might put it on, see how he goes

if you've never seen it then watch it yourself first definitely. i know a lot of films like the back of my hand so know when the scary bits are coming up. that way i could warn him, pantomime it up a bit, squeal and hide under the blanket. that way it's fun.

jurassic park has some really amazing scenes that kids love. you could always fast forward the bit with the arm or the man getting eated off the toilet. so you can enjoy the rest of it.

How can you use judgement about a film you've never seen? That's why folk come on here... for advice.
(should have listened to the dragon butter advice though.... urggghhh)

you know your child. only you can make the call.

and stop googling.

Because of their curiosity about dragonbutter?
Or not using their own judgment about what films to show their children?

Have to say, DS was fine with jurassic park, he loved it. but was absolutely terrified by the t-rex thing at the natural history museum.

Ds1 watched it when it was first released. He was 7 and had bad dreams for at least 6 months afterwards. It was at the cinema though, I shouldn't imagine it gets you as much on DVD.
