Drinking another mammals milk. WTF is all that about?

Why would anyone want to do such a thing?

And past weaning unecessary and slightly disgusting.

I think it should be stopped.

And mushrooms are food of the gods. Oh Eccentrica, Eccentrica. Whatever shall we do with you.

I agree. Aubergines, sea bugs and mushrooms are also disgusting and unnecessary.

pork scratchings on the other hand are delicious.

No, no no. You're thinking of aubergines. Now they are unneccessary and disgusting.

I do think it is weird that we have made cows milk part of our diet. I do wonder why a Cow and not a Donkey or a Goat.
If I think about the origins of any food though it seems weird to eat it though, and as I stopped lactating over four years ago I can't drink my own and they don't sell Camel or Rat milk in the corner shop so Cows it is.

Those adverts were created for The California Milk Processor Board, who obviously have a vested interest in encouraging people to consume milk and milk products.

Firstly I love milk as long as it is straight out of the fridge.

Secondly, I believe the human body is better able to access the nutrients that occur naturally in food than to access the same nutrients from a tablet. Especially as most tablets contain artificially produced versions of the nutrients concerned. My mum spent several years as a participant in a major study into osteoporosis and was given calcium tablets to take daily along with the tablet that was supposedly the treatment ( she never knew if she had the actual tablet or a placebo as she was not told whether she was in the control group or the other one). BUT, she was told that the calcium tablet was a very definite second best to drinking half a pint of skimmed milk a day in terms of the amount of usable calcium available.

Thirdly, as this report shows milk is better than sports drinks there are plenty of reasons why milk is actually worthwhile drinking.

If it's so unecessary past weaning stage, why have there been those "got milk" campaigns in America featuring celebrities to encourage people to drink it?

OP says "And past weaning unecessary (sic) and slightly disgusting."

What are you? The world health organisation?

Yuck - milk is revolting stuff.

I do like cheese and butter, though.

I love milk! It's one of my weaknesses. Mmm, big class of ice cold milk.

DP likes it too. We go through about 4 pints a day in our house .

Remember reading something that suggested Camel's milk was closer to human milk than cows milk and less likely to cause intolerance/allergies but unlikely to feature in european diets due to monoploly by dairy farmers.

Personally can't drink the stuff by the glass but love all the other forms!

What about food such as mushrooms, shrimps(surely aquatic bugs) and pork scratchings!

Personally not supposed to drink milk or eat dairy as it makes my joints swell and does bad things to my digestive system. But cant resist cheese or ice cream need a big kick in ass sometimes. consequences are really not worth it

I love milk, but now you've made me think about 'drinking another mammal's milk' it does seem weird. I mean, wouldn't it be really odd to think of our breastmilk being drunk by sheep, or something?

I want milk now.

Pregnancy makes it do bad things to me though.

Damn you!

Thank goodness someone has said it. Milk is gross.

Saying that, I like it cooked in things and I love cheese. I like cereal with milk but it's too disgusting to eat any time other than the evening and I can't have a spoonful of milk with no cereal bits in it.

Eggs are gross too. Saying that, I do like a fried egg for breakfast at the weekend. Unless the yolk is at all runny, that's revolting.
