Some girl friends and I are off to see Girls Aloud in concert for my birthday (i know, i know )

Anyway, its an outdoor event so food and wine will be flowing. SIL mentions she would like to come, great, then she says her DD would love it too and she will try to get tickets.

So long as you don't get totaly wasted it's fine to have a drink but then I once got totaly wasted had a glass of wine at a Pj and Duncan concert

YANBU. Yes, there will be other kids around but they are not related to you and you will not feel quite so obliged to keep the wine-fuelled banter to "polite chit chat only" . I would just front up to SIL and explain. Alternatively, you might say that you want to go to a bar on way to/from the concert and not really appropriate for DN?

I took my DD (9) and her friend to GA and they had a fabulous time. I kind of understand what you mean about wanting adults only but TBH the whole audience is half kids/half adults so embrace the spirit it all girls aloud!! I echo that your neice probably won't notice too much - my DD and her friends are probably never going to drink wine EVER when they're older when they see adults slightly inebriated. At the end of the day she'll be your SIL's responsibility so have a happy birthday!

Will it really be the first time your 6 year old niece sees you drunk? What a sheltered life she leads most of our family get togethers involve alcohol in varying quantities so I dont see why it would hurt - unless you are the sort of drunkard who talks about willies all the time and flashes your bra in which case a girls aloud concert is not really the place.
