To think that children and quad bikes don't mix.

I know a boy (about 8yo)who is riding as a passenger on parents road legal quad bike. Don't think this is safe at all. I think it is legal though? (unless anyone knows different)

would you take your DC on one of these on the road?

I think any sane person would agree children and qude bikes do not mix, you only have to think of the poor little 7 year old killed at christmas because her parents were stupid enough to let her ride it on a road at night.

there has been a few fatal accidents involving children and quad bikes hasn't there?

so no I wouldn't take my kids on these things

In the same category as jet ski's

hmm, that's an interesting question, because if the quad bike is road legal and has the 4 wheels, then doesn't the driver have to follow the same rules in the Highway Code with regard to passengers as a car driver?

My sister has a few acres of land, and they have 2 mini quads - they are smaller, and don't go as fast, so I do think they are ok.

Big quads and on

I know what you mean purpleduck. I have some land and looked in to getting a small off road quad for the kids but in the end decided against it.
These road legal ones are much bigger, they do up to 60 mph. No seatbelts and no legal requirement to wear a helmet. Quad bikes are notoriously unstable and love to just flip over for the hell of it!
The thought of a child on one makes me feel really uneasy

the ones my sister has are quite slow (you could run faster!!) It has ben quite good for my nephew, as he is learning TONS about how they work, etc.

They also have a safety thing where if the driver does come off, the quad stops
