To think that Sports Day is just an excuse for "who's got the best camera"?

Oh my god, been to DS sports day today. He is in juniors and this morning alone there were 35 events, my son being only in 3 (70 events in total for the day). There are some parents that are clearly setting up camp for the day with folding tables, chairs, picnic baskets, flasks, sun unbrellas etc. There are also those with cameras on tripods and designer sunglasses galore.

When I used to have sports days it was nothing like this - is it me or are parents way too competitive these days and have people got nothing better to do than to spend a day watching kids in races that their own kids take part in only a small numer???!!!

All the kids that weren't racing looked completely bored and fidgety and they had the whole day of it as they had to sit through the infants in the afternoon. So not fair on them at all.

It should be renamed PTA Competition Day - as it clearly was. Apologies to any PTA members out there of course ......

I was totally amazed really.

Yep, and they seem to think they have the right to block everyone elses view just because they have a camera.

DS have several sports days, they have just 2 year groups each day, so there is no hanging around, it lasts no more than 2 hours.

That sounds like a much more sensible idea to me!

At DD's spor's day all the children are involved. But fortunately it is a small school and it only lasts about 1.5 hours. This year it was held in one of the city's sports arena, due to not trustig the weather.

Have to say that I saw very few people with cameras, and none with video cameras this year. I took my camera but it's battery had run out completely when I arrived. So no photos from me either; probably wouldn't have bothered anyway as we were a bit further away in the arena so photos would have been a bit pointless and probably blurred when they were running.
