Income tax - top 45% rate scrapped! Bonkers!

HoppingKangaroo · 23/09/2022 12:29

The 45% top rate of tax (which currently applies on earnings above £150,000) will be scrapped entirely. How will this help the economy? It will just add to the government debt and it just helps out the very weathly.
Why not have more help for the poorest in the country and not have tax cuts for the very wealthy.

It’s a kick in the teeth I shall be around £40 a month better off. Friends on high salaries around £330 better off. That’s nothing to them but could be life changing for so many

it’s so fucking unfair makes me want to cry

there is one positive this isn’t led by populist ideas that wins voters over

@Luckydip1 I work 4 days a week. Are those doing the same role who work 5 days a week more productive?

I'm amazed at the responses to this tax change. We should all be saying great when my children get a job and do well they will be able to keep more of the money they earn.

@Luckydip1 You missed out the part that as a result of these tax changes most people won't be keeping much more of what they earn and that has already been offset by the increase in the cost of fuel as a result of the plunging pound.

Very True and most of them are in the Tory party, they are complaining about rich people, they think there isn't enough of them and they need to be richer... i'm warming to you, talking some sense.

Yes, I did assume that @Luckydip1 was once again describing Tory members of parliament.

So many people in this country want to work the minimum they can, do the bare minimum whilst at work and then spend the rest of the time complaining that there are rich people and how unfair it is.

@jgw1 they are more productive than lying in bed all day smoking fags and living off the taxes from the hardest working people in this country.

Oh please. Your constant references to fags, Sky TV and Coronation Street are getting so tedious. Who can afford fags at £12 a packet? Certainly not benefit claimants.

So doing a pointless repetitive task that does not need doing makes someone productive, whereas having the intelligence to realise that the rocks could just be left where they are makes someone unproductive.

Ok.

Nurses generally do an amazing job and all credit to them. But if those nurses wanted to achieve other things I would like them to have that potential and belief that they could make it happen.

Actually, its quite easy for nurses to progress thanks to the Tories, so credit where credits due.

Countries like Australia, Canada and NZ will take any NHS trained nurse or midwife and pay him or her double or more what they get in the UK, thankfully many many AHP's do leave the NHS and achieve their potential in other healthcare systems.

Great isn't it?

@Luckydip1 If I am employed to move rocks from one side of the yard to the other for 14 hours a day 6 days a week, am I massively productive?

Report
SophieHasOneQuestion · 24/09/2022 12:44

And it is not only six days a week, it is from 9am to 9pm, 6 days a week - thus 996 is the famous number in China. The founder of Alibaba Jack Ma even said publicly that the workers should consider the the opportunity to work 996 as a reward and thank the government/company for it. "Make them tired at work and feed them tiktok afterward, so they won't have energy to think for themselves" is the general idea behind the Chinese productivity.
Our society is far far from perfect, but I still prefer it to a totalitarian country.

@WagathaChristieMystery I want to live in a country where if you are smart and work hard you can achieve anything not some nanny state which sucks the ambition out of everyone, it's so sad. What would our ancestors think about our defeatist and entitled attitude.

They must be cursing our lack of get up n go as they drink warm beer and watch Spitfires overhead.

Disgraceful isn't it?

Luckdip people have already questioned this but why is it you believe that hard work equates with success? Based on your logic nurses working 12hr shifts should earn lots and lots of money yes? Because they work hard? Or is your idea of hardwork only that which earns someone more money?

You missed the 'smart' bit

Guess luckydip doesn’t consider nurses to be smart....

I am happy for the government to borrow money to enhance care and health services and infrastructure. I am not happy for them to borrow billions to line the pockets of their rich cronies.

The whole trickle down concept is total nonsense and was discredited decades ago. It is just a ruse to get the votes they need.
