AIBU?

To want them to turn it off?

I'm on a postnatal ward, alone with DS2. Only one other couple here with their baby. They have been told they are fine to go home whenever they want.

DS2 is getting photo therapy and is also under several investigations after moving here from NICU where he was rushed to from birth, so we can't leave.

Other couple have just started playing loud heartbeat sounds for their baby. DS2 is now unsettled (could be coincidence) and it's stopping me from sleeping. This is night 4 for me and I've done them all solo as DH is home with DD and DS1 so I'm exhausted and really need all the rest I can get.

AIBU to get the staff to ask them to turn the heartbeat sounds off? I don't want to ask directly as I already feel vulnerable being alone on a ward with a strange man with only a thin curtain to separate us.

I'm sorry you are going through this, I hope everything goes well for you both.

But it is not unreasonable to want to sleep at night, and most ppl can't with strange noises going off.

Maybe just ask the staff to ask them to turn it down at least, if not off. Why aren’t they going home though if they’ve been told they can? Most people leave the post natal ward as soon as they’re allowed as they just want to go home!

I hope you get some rest and your baby is ok. 💐

I have no idea! I'm not staying here a second longer than I need to!

Thanks all. I got someone to ask them to turn it off and now the woman is complaining loudly about me to her partner. :( She told the member of staff that it's the only thing stopping her baby from crying. There's two of them though so I don't get why they can't just take shifts of one sleeping and one soothing/cuddling rather than trying to settle the baby in a cot with loud noises.

It's off and their baby isn't even crying now!

Let her moan to her partner about you, who cares. 😂 At least it’s off. Crazy they’re not going home!

Get some rest if you can. 😴
