What would you do if an adult hit your child

188 replies

Without going into too many details.

Two 6 month olds were playing, one ended up hitting the other on the hand, accidentally.
Neither reacted, carried on playing.

The mother of the one who was hit, said 'I saw that' and lightly tapped the hand of the child who had hit her child.
She then turned to her own child and asked if she was OK. Her child stared blankly at her.

The poor kid who had just been hit by the adult looked so confused.
The mother of the one that hit his friend accidentally was so shocked she didn't say anything.

If it was my child, it would take all my strength not to slap the woman.

Or is that unreasonable?

I’d have picked my baby up and walked away.
My mother smacked my dc aged 4 and I never spoke to her again, she died last year and whilst it was shocking there’s a large part of me that’s relived because I never have deal with her again. We lived very close to each other so seeing each other happened fairly often. The anger I felt towards her didn’t waver in the 5 years prior to her death

Regardless if the woman "hit" the baby or not... stay the fuck away from other people's kids!
Especially now the way the world is

I’d be furious. You don’t even “tap” other people’s kids.

I’d snap her fucking fingers back. It depends if it was actually a hit though.

It's not me spamming threads with irrelevant anecdotes tbf.

@Geamhradh hi thread police

I know how I was angry enough when someone decided to shout at my baby, so never mind if someone physically touched my baby.

So if I were that babies mother I would have done a lot more than just say something.

But if you don't find my comments relevant just read and move on. Or are you just bored and lonely this Saturday morning?

@Deadpoet1

If another adult had hit my baby I'd be in prison.

As would most of us.
Didn't happen to the child in question though.

I remember when a random man in a cafe got down on the floor to tell my one year old dd off, with a finger in her face.

Something just came over me from deep inside and I just stood up and started screaming at him to get away from my daughter and who did he think he was etc.

The whole cafe went quiet and everyone was just sat there staring.

If someone had physically touched her I would have likely stabbed them in the face with a fork.

And this is relevant how?

and if probably never allow my child to play with hers and let her know that

“You need to be tolerant to babies flapping their arms else it’s not reallya child friendly place for me to take my child”

Report
Nofruitta · 19/06/2021 10:34

I would tap her on the hand and say I saw that. Touch my child again and I will need to be arrested.

What she did was wrong but not abusive

I would’ve spoken to her and told her that I don’t descipline my child in this way

@JackieTheFart

This is possibly the most ridiculous situation I’ve ever read.

I think some of the responses even more so!

First off she didn't 'hit' a 6 month old baby - that's an extreme description. However, if it were my child I'd be having a strong word with the woman not to ever touch my kid and if she has an issue, she's to come and speak to me so I can decide what to do....and in this situation, it would be nothing.

I'd be boiling with fury! Even if it wasn't my baby and I witnessed her do it to another woman's child I'd give her a serious dressing down.

Some of the responses to the frankly bonkers OP are insane. Call the police?! Smack her in the face?!

Call the police? No lol, it's not an emergency.

It takes about 5 minutes to report it online, that's what I'd do. And only because I'd lose my career if I slapped the parent in the face.

@Bridezillamaybe

I'd say "and I saw that" and punch her full force in the face.

🤣😂

How the heck do 6 month old babies play together?

They don’t. They sit next to each other and flap aimlessly.

I think I'd have have "How dare you hit my baby!" If it was at a baby group I'd have told the organiser. Beyind fucking wierd behaviour!

So it sounds like it was just a tap and not a smack- however regardless I would either immediately pick my child up and leave (which would be the more mature solution so I would try to do this one!) OR I would go absolutely nuclear on her

nanbread · 18/06/2021 21:27

I'd think "what the fuck?" Then give her a VERY wide berth.
