To think surely this will cause it to spread more

These a variant of concern in my area. They aren’t starting the surge testing till tomorrow. Surely anyone that does have it has then been to work or school spreading it around?

Of course, it will mean it's likely to spread more...

But your implication/assumption is that it'll have a measurable/large/disastrous effect. I can't say I'm overly worried given the vaccination rate. It's unlikely that a variant is going to pop up that the vaccine is 0% effective against - which is what most people seem to be focused on.

It's much more likely the vaccination efficacy drops over time as the various variants get more and more diverged from each other. So we're more likely to see a downward trend rather than 'overnight' the (current) vaccinations are no longer effective.

No I’m just not sure what they gain from mass testing of people? And why if as urgent and important as they are making out can it wait till the next day.

There are logistical issues , it never ceases to amaze me how people think things happen by magic - they also have to ensure the legislation covers the variant which it now does , give them a chance to get the manpower and testing

I also feel it’s not really needed. The likelihood of me having come across this person is slim.
