Asking for childrens names and info on Facebook

Does anyone else think there's something very peculiar about posts like this? Why do people need to know other peoples children's name?
It's not as bad as the ones where people share a status with all of their child's info on it, e.g. date of birth, weight at birth, what type of delivery you had etc. :/
