To want to know, what is the new 'grey'?

Inspired shamelessly by a thread I just read BUT if painting whole houses grey (I am almost guilty of doing planning this) will soon be out of fashion, much as white and before that, magnolia - what do you think the new grey will be?!

I have over half a house left to paint but zero artistic flare! If I'm left to my own devices it will all go grey as I like my calm grey kitchen and living room. Now I think I may need saving from myself!

Ive had a quick look at all the new build show home photos around me and the are pale cream with pale yellow, blue pale pinks bits with beige carpets or variation of that. Im really surprised as just a year ago they were grey carpets and tiles, pale grey, white walls with the odd bit of silver wallpaper.

I’m quite surprised so many people are commenting navy. I did my living room in navy/tropical colours nearly 5 years ago. Wasn’t in fashion then, I just liked it. I guess it’s coming in now.
I usually just go for what I like I don’t care about trends. My house is a reflection of me. If you’re stuck, I suggest googling new build homes. Look at their show home pictures for ideas.

Just about to finish redecoration on a house we gutted. We have the palest blue white downstairs and a cream/white upstairs. It looks fresh and beautiful imo
Grey reminds me of school uniform. Not a fan of any trends in home decor. Choose what you like the look of. The trends will date

Mine is entirely white with cream or white flooring. I don't care whether the fashion is grey, neon green or sky blue!

Imagine you didn’t have to follow a trend. Imagine you weren’t ‘keeping your house nice’ in case you need to sell it. Imagine you didn’t care what other people thought. What colours do you love? What colours spark joy? What to you want the room to feel like - warm, cool, vibrant, calm, give energy, fun, relaxing…and then paint it those colours. To overuse Marie Kondo’s expression, ‘what sparks joy?’ I was never a magnolia or grey woman. My house is painted in yellows and turquoise, whites and teal (not all in the same room) but with lots of wood and white on skirting boards and above picture rails - colours that make me happy.

Whatever you use now will look dated in five years as you’ll most likely be bored with it, on trend or not. Just do what you like, it’s your home and you need to be comfortable in it.

Oh good!! I'm definitely more relaxed in pale colours! I'm naturally quite a stressed out person so my house needs to relax me!

I think it will be neutrals for a considerable length of time.
As environmental concerns escalate interiors will reflect the move towards natural materials, a move away from environmentally damaging paint pigment production, made in industrial plants pumping out chemicals.
So I can't see and bold colour use for a long time.

We are probably decorating our family room with this wallpaper . I’m toying with what kitchen to go with it, I was thinking really dark blue (darker than navy if possible) and brass cladding, but now I’m thinking maybe dark green or deep aubergine, still with the brass and dark oak wood floor. We only have strong/dark/bold colours as we’ve never liked anything else. Our front room is a deep red called coral fire, our bedroom is a petrol colour called hobgoblin and our hall is a bright yellow which I can’t remember, all from Valspar.

We want this wallpaper for our bathroom.

Mustard and navy?? Hmm, sounds like a variation of yellow and blue. All the range in mid 1990's

I think, after the year we've had, we might see lots of bright colours again, and funky 70's style patterns, as people may wish to have stuff that looks FUN. And same with clothes. I've seen people recently wearing flares

If what you want is a chalky white, then some of the trade matt whites are excellent and cheaper (although not cheap). Our decorator got one much cheaper and I'm very happy with it, but then I don't think I can always see the shades of white that others can see, it looks nice and fairly warm in our living space.

The other one I like which is creamier is “white tie” and a more magnolia (but not magnoilia!) one is slipping stone- we have that in the sitting room with partially wallpapered recessed chimney breasts- they are in F and B Yukotori.

Yes, 70s brown, my bedroom then! Also bottle green.
Just paint the colours you like. I love all blues, turquoise, teals and pale pinks, shades of light green or vintage green. Have used these colours for years and yes it's a pain in one way when they become fashionable but it means it's easier to find stuff!!
