Anyone thinking of going abroad this summer?

Sorry if this has already been asked but I couldn't see it anywhere.

Basically I'm just being nosy. I honestly think if I could just teleport myself somewhere else this summer I would in a flash. It's just the plane journey that puts me off (obviously I would go somewhere quiet). Is anyone still planning on going abroad this summer? Or now looking at cheap deals?

No I can't think of anything I would rather do less than be unwell in another country during a pandemic.

This virus spread around the world in a matter of weeks because of international travel. It could do so again. So I won't be going anywhere outside of my own country for the foreseeable. Just me I suppose.

This virus has not gone away, it is just waiting to infect more hosts when it can, so while I hope it doesn't happen again, I am very wary for now as I see the airports and destinations opening up again.

It just took a matter of weeks remember for this plague to travel to all corners of the world remember.

Absolutely no way. Perhaps not going away next year but then we were lucky to have our big expensive holiday at Christmas.

We don't go abroad every year, we tend to save and go big. We usually do UK cottage holiday if we are not venturing abroad but that's not likely for another 12 months. I'd hate the idea of holiday with restrictions, I'd rather stay in the comfort of my own home.

Nope asTui cancelled our July holiday for late July.

We have booked self catering in the UK instead.we normally do a few self catering UK breaks but I'm not booking another like I normally do for October half term.

I'm hoping to book a cancel on the day room for Bath Christmas market.

It's so crap. I'm ebaying all my dd summer outfits too. She is just slumming about in the garden this year now

No. My holiday has been rescheduled for next year. I don't think it's wise and there will be some restrictions on what we could do there which would mean it wasn't worthwhile for the money.

No. I would be too nervous we'd get ill in another country and I am a single parent.

Looking at flights for next Easter though...

Travel companies are reporting a huge increase in bookings now the air bridges are in place. Hopefully more countries will get added when it’s safe to do so.

No not for us. Our holiday to Croatia in the middle of August has just been cancelled and I'm relieved. It wouldn't have been enjoyable with all the precautions and now we will get our money back.

I've got 14 days in France starting 31st July - still aiming to go - ferry not plain - hotels and Eurocamp I booked are open - on the beach so no worries about it being open - insurance I have had for years and covers Covid

We usually go long haul but that isn’t going to work this year. Now the air bridges are in place we’ll go to my DP in Belgium and then down to friends in the Dordogne.

@tilder

No. Because I think schools are more important.

Just curious. When people say their insurance will cover them, how much are they covered for?

As we booked the trip and bought annual insurance before COVID-19 kicked off, we're covered for up to £15,000,000 of medical and repatriation costs. I reckon that should be enough, as we'll only be in Belgium....

No not this year. Supposed to be going to Corfu on 12 July, but not going.

Yes, we have a week at CenterParcs in the Ardennes in August, booked in January along with the Eurotunnel Shuttle. Can't see why we wouldn't go - lots of space and bike rides in fresh air, and I can't think of a more social distancing-compatible way of getting out of the country than the tunnel: no need to even get out of the car at any point!

Yep. Flying to France on 18 July. If the flight is cancelled we’ll drive.

I would love to but with social distancing and mask wearing it’s just not going to feel like a holiday and I don’t want to shell out £££ for a half hearted holiday.

We are going to wait and see, I would love to go away in nov/dec, Caribbean ideally but who knows what the world will look like then and the thought of making my toddler wear a mask to fly long haul is extremely off putting.

We were supposed to be flying to Greece this morning Sad

But we've written off 2020 for holidays and we live for our holidays. We might go and visit family in other parts of the UK later in the year.

We have a trip to the Canaries booked for first day of school hols. Booked in November. We have paid a couple of grand deposit. Balance due to be taken next week. I don’t want to go. I want to just switch it to next year. It’s too soon. I don’t want to pay thousands for what was supposed to be an amazing rare holiday abroad (we usually holiday in UK), and for it to be compromised by all of us including kids having to wear masks, queue for restaurants, attractions not being open etc. I spent literally weeks and weeks researching the hotel, thinking about pools, the type of restaurant for my fussy eldest child (half board buffet so he can pick meals he likes - don’t think buffets will be allowed). I spent so long agonising over the details and trying to make it perfect as we never go on holidays this pricey. So what I booked is not what we will get. But I don’t know what to do. If we cancel we lose thousands. If we go, we spend thousands more for a compromised holiday. And what happens if one of us gets ill? Will we be separated from kids if they are ill? Can I subject my kids to 6 hours or more wearing masks in airport and on a plane? I just wish it would be cancelled, or we would be given the opportunity to rebook. But doesn’t seem that will happen now.

Yes, seriously thinking about Spain next month, DP has a small villa there, we planned to go in March but of course it didn’t happen, we can hunker down when we get there, the solitude is very appealing after the lockdown I’ve had. Small part of me is worried about catching the virus on the flight but I guess masks will be worn by all and planes disinfected.

We had Fuerteventura booked for May, that was cancelled. We've got Majorca booked for September and was really looking forward to it however we've just found out that our return flight isn't running so I'll be ringing TUI on Monday to see what they can do for the same dates.

This year has been completely shit, I need to do something positive.

No, my co-morbidity is too serious (shielded, and even when that pauses, bring close to people on a plane remains a no-no)

But even if it weren’t, I think I’d be worried that destination might impose quarantine for travellers from UK or some other restrictions that would restrict the holiday,

I’m sticking to the UK - probably in a tent in the garden of a relative who lives somewhere nuce

Looking to book a last minute week late August if we are able.

AI hotel, to sit around pool and relax for a week. Won't be wandering into local villages or anything.

Depends if the experience is worth it - if they want us to wear masks by the pool etc we won't be bothering.
