Not one word of a fucking lie, I'm stood in my garden and I hear

"Daily Mail's just said Boris is going to give a £15 voucher for free school meal kids. I'm well happy, thats my Friday night drinks sorted"

Excuse my language, but I am fucking livid.

A Libertarian is someone who thinks individual liberty trumps any responsibility to society, including tax. So instead of seeing common good in feeding children who's parents are struggling, they deride the parent for having children without a crystal ball to tell them that at the end of 10 years of austerity a pandemic would cost them what little employment they had.

But you can of course google it for yourself.

What on earth is a Libertarian? Is it a person who doesn't want to see children go hungry and get rickets? Is it that kind of person?

Where are these wonderous Church halls full of kindly grannies serving hot food?

"Yes because everyone on free school meals should have their children monitored daily in exchange for food hmm"

Libertarians get their rocks off picturing children lining up at soup kitchens. Next stop the Workhouse!

Good point. Would only work with either local schools or somewhere in each village eg churches offering the meal I suppose.

@Xenia, that would be a 19-mile round trip every day for my DD just to get her lunch. Even if school buses were running.

I have made this joke about the Scottish FSM vouchers we're getting. Not sure what it's got to do with safeguarding but I think you just wanted a froth thread and missed the mark.

When my DD was younger, and we were in receipt of DLA for her, we used to call it drugs and lager allowance.

Hah, that's brilliant, I'm going to use that from now on. Just need to find a similarly amusing phrase for PIP.

I do worry that the additional funding will be spent by some parents on fags and booze.

The vouchers can't be used for alcohol or cigarettes, they're food vouchers. And even if it were possible, it's the same principle as benefits, the vast majority of people will use them as designed, there will always be a small minority who won't. But those children whose parents for whatever reason aren't taking proper care of them, a food voucher won't change anything, dinner provided at school during lockdown won't help either - because you can guarantee they won't take them.

You were always a contrarian @Xenia but you used to demonstrate intelligence - what happened?

I'm not sure about the intelligence bit. It's usually just boasting posts about how much money s/he has.

I agree with the additional support to feed children as I know many children genuinely go hungry in school holidays.
I also know that some children attend school having had no breakfast, no drink or even had their hair brushed. I’m talking about KS 2 children so they can’t be expected to be independent. Also, the parents are unemployed and so are not rushing out to go to work - whatever - it’s a parents job to care for their child.
I do worry that the additional funding will be spent by some parents on fags and booze. If you think I’m judgemental you could be right.
Some parents parent inadequately because they don’t know how to parent well or ‘good enough’ ( no-one is perfect).
Some children won’t be better fed but most probably will.

Years ago I was in the Post Office collecting the child benefit ["groats" in those days] and said "That will do for some gin" [Joke] and she was horrified "It's not for that" [but there was nothing about what it could be spent on in the book.

I get the vouchers for my kids and have joked to them that I'll be buying fags and booze. I don't actually smoke, and rarely drink, so it is a joke.
I have bought alcohol a couple of times though and used the vouchers, but I've spent far more than I've received in vouchers so I guess I've paid for it myself.

Or does anyone want to have a go out me for the 3 bottles of wine and 4 small bottles of Koppaberg I've drank since lockdown started? Not that I'll care if you do.

OP I say this kindly. You need to fill your life with other things.

I told my sister I was buying us all steak for dinner with DD's voucher, she laughed. I didn't buy us steak. I spent it on a specific brand butter, chicken goujons and a few bags of salted popcorn because dd is autistic and those brands and salted popcorn are the only snack food she will eat. Hope no one minds Smile

Way overthinking - it's something DH & I would joke about. As in 'wow, that's really big of him, might as well have a massive binge'

It states you can't buy tobacco and alcohol on them however they'll probably spend the vouchers on food and then the money they were going to spend on food use for alcohol instead of making sure their kids get the nutrition they need.

Is that you, Mystic Meg?
