AIBU?

To not tell him the time

Hohohole · 16/06/2020 08:09

Everynight my partner will ask me the time when we're in bed asleep. I might just turn over in bed and he'll ask me. I've stopped answering him because it means looking at my phone, when he has his right beside him. Aibu in stopping being his talking clock?

@DestinationFkd

Why are you so worked up about this? It is specifically his qualities of adulthood and humanity that I’m referencing in this situation, which is why I used those words. I don’t know why you have such a bee in your bonnet about it, or what coded point you’re trying to make. Just spit it out?

I would have probably killed DH if he had woken me up at night to ask me what time it is 😳 in fact DH knew waking me up was forbidden 😂

We have a projector clock so I can literally check the time with zero effort.

Yup, he's a human, he's an adult and he has a cock.
That makes him a man. Your fingers still won't drop off if you type man instead of an infantile ' adult human'.

The name for his problem is entitlement. The name for your problem is whatever his name is. 😠

Get an Alexa with a clock. Then he can either look or ask her.

I have told him to stop but he just apologises and says he thought I was awake.

So why is he in a huff that you didn't answer him? It's completely irrational.

Lie.

Fake snore.

If he huffs, tell him he's an arsehole.

Tell him it’s half past a shoe and then pretend to be asleep. Repeat every night. He’ll stop asking...

Next time, just snore back! What a selfish person! He thought you were awake, indeed. He knew you were awake because he woke you! 😠

My husband does that, and also tells me to remind him of things all the time. Eg. “Remind me to call Dave tomorrow.” Drives me bonkers given I have calendars and lists everywhere to remind me to do things for the entire family yet he can’t even remember to call his own mate or colleague I’ve never met. He has a phone, just like I have. He can add a reminder himself. He can pencil it in on the physical calendar I put up in the kitchen, just like I do. It’s almost like they don’t want to waste mental space, time and energy doing simple admin tasks. He then gets shitty if I say no. I’m starting to realise I’ve humoured this sort of crap way too long in general and have dramatically started reining it in. Cue sulks all around...

My ex used to ask me the most stupid of questions when I was just dropping off to sleep. used to drive me mental!

Tell him to look at the time himself, the lazy shite. Also tell him to stop sulking.

He's in a huff today because I didn't answer him last nigh

And what? He expects you just to quietly accept his mood because you didn't do what he wanted? And when he gets over it he expects you to act s if nothing happened?

Manipulating arsehole.

Either tell him to fuck off and check him self
Or just make up a random number
Or ask him random questions in the middle of the night 'do we have milk?' 'do you like cats' ' what is your favourite color'

Why is he so concerned about the time to want to wake you up?

Is he back in work? Stressed? Insomniac? Can he reach his own phone?

I wouldn’t wake DH up to find out the time. It’s a bit bizarre.

even if he does have a penis and a partner who could do it for him. I had a vision of a penis walking into a shop, saying the woman wasn't available today!

he just apologises and says he thought I was awake.

That's the point at which I would lose it, OP you need to get a bit irate when he says this and tell him 'I'm not bloody awake, I'm never bloody awake because IT'S THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!!' Then ask him why he thinks you deserve to be woken up to serve him as his personal speaking clock. If he won't stop I'd insist on separate rooms, sleep should be sacrosanct.

just tell him is 52:98 every time.

My DH kept asking me all the time what's for lunch/dinner (I do the cooking, and he eats everything, so no idea why he eneded to know) anyway, every single time he asked i said "A slice of soup, followed by a cube of custard" - he stopped asking me.

Have you asked him why he asks you when he knows you have to get your phone, unlock it, look at the time and tell him when he could simply get his own phone, unlock it and look at the time? Why does he want you to do it instead of him when he's the one who wants to know.

Really make him explain his thinking.

And then come back and tell me cos I'm dying to know 😁

DH used to do this a lot. Took me quite some time to work out that he is just voicing his own thoughts, not actually asking me

Only when adult DSS stayed with us for a few days and I noticed him talking away to himself that I really believed DH

One thing g we do agree on in this house, though, is that we don't sulk. We sometimes have to break off and say I just need a moment to to sort myself out. Have a break and continue whatever it was later but fully blown sulk, no.

@SadSisters

What's with the adult human shit.
He's a man, you can type man. Your fingers won't drop off.

Who pissed on your chips?

My point is that many people were behaving as though it was OP’s job to solve his problem - i.e. dumping the emotional and practical labour required by a man on to a woman. But since he is an adult, and therefore has access to money / Tesco / the internet and a human (dogs struggle with online payments and aren’t allowed in supermarkets) he’s perfectly capable of helping himself even if he does have a penis and a partner who could do it for him.

FAB! 😄😄😄😄😄⭐⭐⭐⭐
