AIBU?

To ask you to recommend your double pushchair...?

Posting here for traffic. I’m pregnant with my second baby, due in September. My toddler will be 26 months when this one arrives. I think I’m very likely to need a double pushchair as my little boy is a bugger for running off so I’m not convinced I can trust him to stay on a buggy board. The only requirements really are that it is easy to manoeuvre (there are 13 steps up to my house) and with a decent sized shopping basket. What would you recommend and why? Or do you think I could get away with a single pram and either sling or buggy board combo depending on the situation? Thanks.

Oooh I have a controversial opinion here... I have an 18 month gap and love my icandy peach over my MB duet.

MB duet (purchased first)
+Narrow side by side so fits thro8gj most doors but tricky in shop aisles sometimes.
+Easy to push and big wheels, would recommend the non puncture ones

  • Older child kept poking the younger one in the face (Hmm)
  • Felt fucking massive in my small flat.
  • Tricky to get In and out of the boot of my estate car as not easy to lift
  • Took up the whole boot
  • feels a bit rickety generally (I find this with all MBs)
  • doesn't look good and the hoods are not very long
  • rain hood is a fucker to get on
  • hard to push one handed and hold a toddler I think

+ easy to push on rough terrain with aerotech wheels
  • you need to buy the strap extenders to use with a foot muff

Icandy peach 3 blossom (purchased when youngest was 3 mo)
+ folds up tiny and light to get in and out of boot. Quick fold
+ easy to push as long as heavier child is nearer you
+ no bigger than a single so fits everywhere
+ fits more shopping in the basket and easier to get to than the MB
+ the bottom child isn't that much lower than in my cameleon tbh
  • if bigger child is on bottom they can kick back of seat

+ easy to push one handed
+ comes in bright colours (a must for me haha)

If I was buying one new I'd get the uppababy vista as you can face on kid fwd and one backward. I love the look of the donkey (I love my Cam and get on really well with the brand) but if you're like me in a London flat it's just not going to happen. For twins I would say side by side but I think tandem for older/younger. I was adamant I would not have a tandem when pregnant so have changed my mind

Donkey all the way!
-best all terrain
-can change to a single when other child wants to walk/use a board
-massive basket underneath
-can alternate parent/world facing depending on which way child wants to go

I don’t have a need for a double as only one DC but she is a bolter. If she’s walking she’s always on reins as I don’t trust her. I’ve tried several types but love the Trunki toddlepak. I also use one of those big buggy clips to clip the lead bit to the buggy if I need to drop the rein for any reason (just have to make sure I’ve put the brake on!). My DD is 21 months so hoping she grows out of it soon

Bugaboo donkey 100%!! If you’re toddler wants to walk or you don’t need it as a double you can change it to the single.

The out n about fits through most standard doorways AND I could push it with one hand. Pretty good going since I had a bad back.

Me too, I have a gut reaction to the over and under doubles.

I know it’s sad but I’m genuinely pleased at all the side by side double buggies being suggested!

Out n about, it's so manoueverable, I still use it now with just one child (plus luggage) as it's better than our single pram and only slightly wider.

City mini every time. Big basket, easy to push and lightweight, fits everywhere a wheelchair would, folds easily, newborn carrycot, big hoods and viewing windows, seats are quite deep, fully reclines.

I love mine, second hand of Ebay for £75. Its taken a whole load of punishment and keeps asking for more.

I have a second hand nipper and its fab. The only thing i don't like is the front wheel wobbles when i take it up a kerb, because you are moving on to one wheel instead of two,if that makes sense?
I'd buy exactly the same again regardless.

Out and about double nipper (with the carry cot attachment for new born months)

Very light and robust - important to us bc we walk a lot / Off road and our kids are bloody savages Grin

It’s not fancy and padded and luxe looking like some of the others but if you need robust and long lasting then it’s a good option. I also liked the mountain buggy a lot but there was a significant price difference which didnt warrant it compared to out and about

I also bought it second hand and got it for a good price.

Another for Mountain Buggy Duet. I loved ours and used it for my six month old and 2 year old. I loved how springy it felt and it was narrow enough to navigate clothes shops and doorways. Takes up a hefty amount of boot space but then so do the others. We loved it.

Depends where you live.
A side by side can be lighter /collapse smaller however no good in village shops.
With that age eldest won't need pushchair for long. I'd be tempted to have sling for baby and some reins so eldest can walk sometimes and pop baby in pushchair.

Sling and single buggy works to start with but I found double buggy invaluable for getting out. Had a Phil and Ted voyager. Quite good and has a 25kg weight limit for the bigger child. But brakes and straps have already had to be replaced. I list over the city jogger double but never used one. Have a Joie cheapo single buggy and is very light and easy to use so might be worth a look at the double if you need something you can lift upstairs whilst recovering from the delivery

Out n about nipper double is brilliant.

I had a similar age gap. I did manage with pram/buggy board or sling/pushchair. Could you use reins plus buggy board if he's a bolter?

Mountain Buggy Duet. I use it as a double when my four year old is flagging and as a single when it's just myself and DS2. Very narrow and easy to manoeuvre.

Tried a tandem. Hated it.

The cheapest, lightest one you can find. And make sure it fits through doors.

Phil and Ted Sport was very good for us but we didn’t need to bring it up any stairs.

Second the mountain buggy duet. Narrower than the city mini, great seat height so lasts amongst the longest (we found that it wasn’t all about the weight limit - need to check whether child fits under the hood too!! Donkey for example had a REALLY small seat unit by comparison). Steers incredibly easily, and if you slime the tyres then shouldn’t suffer from punctures. Love ours.
