To be annoyed by photo that obscures most popular threads

I mean why do they do that? It’s not even advertising? One minute I’m having the time of my life searching popular threads next moment photo descends, I can see nothing. I know it’s a tiny thing in the grand scheme but just why?

This is constant and I often end up elsewhere because of it!
