Husbands!!

My dh drove my car last night and whatever he did when he pressed the buttons to lock it, all the windows were left open all night. My car is soaked, as it has been raining here all night. Am I wrong to be so cross? I had to get plastic bags for the seats for the school run but my bum still feels wet.

I do agree, though, that the title of the thread was a little unwise and just potentially giving more fuel to the MRAs.

If the OP's husband who made this easy mistake that anybody could make had happened to have ginger hair, I very much doubt the title would have been 'Gingers!!!'; or 'Teachers!!!" if that happened to be his occupation.

In some Audi's, if you hold down the unlock button all 4 windows will go down. Probably the same in other cars from the same group. We found this out the hard way a few days ago!

We found using towels and stamping/leaning on them to get the majority of the water out then going a drive with the heat blasting on full for a good bit (so you might wanna just wear a t shirt!) helped. If you live in a safe area you could also leave the heat on for an hour outside your house if someone can mind the car from the window. And febreeze the shit out of the cushions to help with the smell.

So infuriating. Do people who design cars actually live in the real world? Does it not occur to them that, firstly, if people want to put/leave the windows down, they will use the, erm, window buttons; and secondly, that making a key fob that will leave all your windows down when you're away from or leaving the car, which is activated by a slightly different way to how people LOCK their cars when not using them and wanting to keep them safe, secure and dry, is an absolutely stupid thing to do for somebody who is clearly otherwise very intelligent? Does it even cross their minds that people will need to hunt out towels, dehumidifiers and Febreeze to deal with the aftermath of their idiotic design - and that's if you actually have an unstolen car to come back to?

I wonder if it was the same person who, on seeing somebody else's excellent idea to have taps in public toilets give 10-15 seconds of water with one push and then stop the flow to avoid waste, decided to 'improve' it by making the flow stop the instant you move your hand off it. I imagine they were thinking of all of that water that would be saved whilst paying no heed whatsoever to the only reasonable way that most people (except those with 3 or more hands) can actually to hygienically wash their hands.

Their next project: bicycles that save on metal and rubber consumption in manufacture by only having one pedal.

My ex's car used to do the same thing if you slightly held down the lock button.

You can buy dehumidifiers that you leave in the car which should help speed up the drying process.

@jpclarke

Is it a mini? I had one and it kept doing this when I locked it ... I think it was fault that other mini owners complained about and BMW did do a recall.

It’s annoying and an inconvenience but doubtful he did it on purpose.

Suppose you could get him back (playfully) by creeping up on him when he’s in the shower and chucking a glass of cold water on him? Lol

But it was an accident. I'd be annoyed but at the situation not DH. Did anyone sit on the keys? Just asking as dh sat on his keys the other day without realising and his boot opened. We only realised when a neighbor knocked on the door at 10pm!

@jpclarke Flowers I can see why you're cross even though it was an accident. Have you got a dehumidifier and a heater? Park it in a enclosed garage. Close up the car and feed the cables through the slit in the window to an adapter. It will take time but should work. I had to pay a local garage to do it for me. It cost me a small fortune.

And if he did press it with his penis, I'd get a new set of keys.

So, a wife who likly has sex with her husband, which would ( shock, horror) include touching his penis would need to replace an item that said penis touched? I get you are making a joke but it's not really a funny one...

What does this have to do with husbands? Surely it's a mistake that anybody could make?

With my car, if you press and hold one button, it folds the wing mirrors, and another and it opens all the windows half way down.

Could he have pressed the wrong buttons?

I think I'd be internally raging, but I know that if I'd borrowed my partner's car and done the same thing, he'd be incredibly understanding, so would try to swallow it and use bin bags until they'd dried out.

Well unless he was pressing the button with his penis, it's not a husband thing is it, as PP delightfully said, it's a numpty thing.

And if he did press it with his penis, I'd get a new set of keys.

Pressing a button wouldn't normally result in all the windows opening.

It can on ours, a VW, it's some combination of the buttons and long presses, I've done it myself, it's not just a male thing. My OH usually has a bottle of water in the car and has been known to leave it on the passenger seat with the top loose.

Any suggestions on how to dry it? The driver side especially got soaked. I took the kids car seats out to dry them and they took nearly 2 hours in front of the stove. It's been one of those days today😰

My car has an infuriating 'feature' whereby if you squeeze the key wrongly when putting it in your pocket or whatever, the boot opens. My neighbours have stopped knocking on now and just close it for me if they see it.

I'm guessing its something like this? Very annoying but not deliberate

Does he have form for ruining your things but taking care of his own?

It's supposedly a useful feature included in some German cars, but one that most people seem to activate unknowingly by accident and come back to find a wet or stolen car.

It seems pointless to me and much more likely to be disadvantageous than beneficial to most people. I'm guessing it was dreamt up by the same person who designed Bosch washing machines to keep beeping repeatedly every minute or two when the cycle is finished as it's apparently urgent that cleaned washing not be left in the machine for a few minutes whilst you're dealing with any of a thousand other chores at the same time.

My VW Golf is supposed to have this as a feature, but I couldn't get it to work. I suspect it can be disabled in car settings somewhere. (Possibly in invisible settings that customers can't get into.)

Don't blame your DH. This happens to our car sometimes. We've taken t back to them and they can't seem to work out what happens or why. something about radio signals/pressure or something. It happened the other night for the first time in ages and thank god it didn't rain but we're still struggling with condensation on the inside of the windows, especially the windscreen.

I did this with my VW Golf once. Fortunately it was in an indoor car park so nothing got wet and surprisingly nothing was stolen (there was £10 that anyone could have reached in and taken). So not as bad as your wet bottom but my point is that it’s easier to do than you might think!!

My dad's Skoda (VW group) does this occasionally, it is a fault.
