My 5 year old ds was trying to cheer me up this evening and he said Mum, even though you wear glasses you still look nice! I laughed and said thank you. Then he said but you do look weird without makeup, you do need that makeup. But Mum you just look so not old and amazing!
He meant well, I think!

I’m the world’s worst cook so when the dds told me they thought I was could be a school dinner lady I preened.

I don’t have DC, but my own mother gave me a terrific backhanded compliment when I was about 21.

She was looking at a photo of me at 18, then looked at me and said, “Thank god you blossomed, I thought you’d look like your father forever.”

My DSis, on opening the latest in a long line of "thoughtful" Christmas presents from her passive-aggressive MiL, "A jumper in a 14? I am NOT a 14. How could she possibly think I'm a 14?" 😤

Fortunately, my DNiece, aged 8, was on hand to console her. "Don't worry, Mummy, everyone knows you are 40, not 14".

Dd (14) did my make up for me the other month for a very rare night out.

'You look really good mum, am surprised the difference proper eyebrows make, it really does make a difference'.

Ds aged 3 at the time on seeing me in a dress for probably the first time in forever for a family party 'oh mummy, you look soooo beautiful'. A clear compliment but am not sure how rough I looked for the previous 3 years for a maxi dress and a bit of makeup to make such a significant difference.

There was a bad pic taken of me at school. I am a teacher.

I was dressed up to go out when DS aged about 7 said ' You look nice, but you don't look like mummy'.

Yes it was one of the rare times I was not wearing jeans and a T shirt, as we were going to a dinner for my DH work.

DN was looking through a book of ghosts and ghouls. She point at one particularly horrifying (This is a kids book so nothing too bad!) one and declared it was Mummy, which was I found hilarious until she found one even worse that she said was me!
