I'll start with a bit of back story. As kids if the sun poked out even a little bit mum was in the garden & we had to be as well. We were not allowed back indoors except to use the bathroom all day and i have memories of feeling unwell from the heat and like i couldnt escape.

Now as an adult i enjoy nice weather but equally i dont feel the need to have to be out in it. My kids enjoy being inside as well, but they can come and go as they please too so they might take themselves off to the park or draw in the garden.

However it's amazing how many times I've been told "you should be outside with the kids, the weather is lovely" to the point that i feel guilty that we're not outside.

Add to this i get horrific, debilitating hayfever so outside can be painful....literally & my children are all very pale redheads so i worry they'll burn despite sun cream.

I actually quite liked last summer as because it was sunny for so long my mum especially let off some of the pressure of saying we should be outside as the weather was here to stay. But now we're expecting rain again in a few days shes shocked I've told me kids they can have a movie day indoors as thats what they've asked for.

When I lived in Spain most people went indoors for the hottest part of the day to relax in the cool. I prefer to be out in the early morning before it gets too hot and then after 6 when it has cooled down again. No one needs to be out all day in the direct sun. It is madness.

Yanbu I have too have been made to feel guilty for not appreciating nice weather. I'm not that big an outdoors person it's nice sometimes but I don't really want to go out just for the sake of it. The other day I visited my mother and she made a point to hold the baby out in the sun saying it would do her good. We go out nearly every day I didn't like the implication we never go out but also she's too little for full sun really

I am suffering too with hayfever - we stayed indoors today because I have had enough of not being able to breathe!

I am hoping my hayfever clears up by mid May as it usually does so I can try and enjoy any nice weather we have from then onwards!

I hate wasting the beautiful weather by not planning something that would be less fun if cold/wet. But I like being outside in all weather's.

At these temperatures though I'd be inside/in the shade during the main part of the day.

I'm fair skinned op and cant tolerate more than 1 hour in the hot weather otherwise I end up burnt like a lobster, I agree with you though I hate the idea of being. Ade to go outside all day because it's hot I like to mix it up

I'm a vampire. My skin doesn't react well to a lot of sun. I get brown skin discolouration/hyperpigmentation very easily. My skin reacts with most sun screens so when I'm outdoors I really need the shade and total coverage.

I also get hayfever and my asthma generally plays up. I like rain and snow. The idea of sunbathing is abhorrent to me.

I'm inside, happy in my air conditioned house.

InadvertentlyBrilliant thank you. That is the exact attitude from the PP that I'm talking about. Why they feel the need to lay on the guilt and say "thats not good" like I've got the kids chained indoors, never to see the sun.

For the record both the kids & us parents have had a mental busy few months with school and clubs, gradings, trips, daddy is having to work 18 hour days (thank you London protesters ) and i honestly think the kids just want to stop & chill with a movie.

As it so happened they watched one movie, my 10 & 6 year old went out on bikes for a bit, my 7 year old son made a movie on his kindle in the garden using lego. Granted they were only out for 10 or 15 minutes but still, why do i feel like I've had to point that out?!

Agree. I’m an indoor person. My interests don’t change with the weather. If it’s a perfect Spring or Autumn day I might go for a walk I otherwise wouldn’t, but beyond that I don’t suddenly develop a dozen outdoor interests the minute the sun comes out.

The few outdoor activities I enjoy I’d rather do in the cold anyway. On a ‘nice’ day I have to worry about getting burnt, sweating like a pig etc. I’m much more comfortable on a cold, wet day.

I love the summer, love heat and sunshine. However I don’t like to sit in the sun - if I’m utside I’ll be in the shade.
I go out sometimes in the sun - walks or sitting in the shade to read (confused about the app with a kindle they can’t see outside - mine isn’t backlit and I’d never get one that was, as what’s the point?). I don’t feel guilty when I’m inside. I just enjoy the warmth and the fresh air through open doors.
