To delete Facebook?

I’ve been on facebook for 10 years and have been a regular poster. But recently I have noticed that it doesn’t have a great effect on my mental health- comparison is a thief of joy and all that.

I recently took a month long break- and then went back on it- felt really calm and happy when not on it and immediately a bit shit when back on it.

I don’t know whether to permanently delete it or not- has anyone got rid of it for ever? How did it feel? I do stay in touch with some peope via it but I seem to be a bit all or nothing!!

Have recently got rid of Instsgram for similar reasons but Facebook seems harder to get rid of.

Aibu to delete it permanently or is that a bit extreme?

Fwiw though it doesn’t make me feel bad or shitty and I don’t compare myself, I just felt like I was spending a little bit too much time on it

I deleted FB for the same reasons you are describing & it was the best the thing I ever did. It will take a while to get used ti not having as I would automatically go to go on it when I picked my phone up. Once the fear of missing out on what everyone was upto wore off it was a huge relief not to have the burden of comparing my life to everyone else's.

I was off it for three years and loved not having it, but then my son started school and I went back on as all the parents are on it, and I wanted the social aspect. Maybe because I'm older now but I don't feel shit about it anymore.

Loads of people have got rid of it forever, of course. I’ve done it twice (made a new account as needed a business account but then got sick of that too so never used it so was pointless). You can download all your posts and photos into a zip file when you delete it so it’s not like you lose anything. Presumably anyone who is actually in your life outside of Facebook already has another way to keep in touch with you, if they don’t for some reason then give them your number or email address. It’s fine!

I deleted mine almost 2 years ago. At the time my dad had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer and I was getting pissed off with seeing everyone's petty shit on there so I suspended my account. Anyone that I actually speak to has my number so can still contact each other. I deleted it permanently about 6 months ago and i dont miss it at all

That's what triggered my deactivation charlotte, seeing all the silly posts while watching my dad die was surreal, why did any of this stupid shit matter. Years later and thankfully I can enjoy the little stuff again.
