AIBU?

Why are people now saying ‘use to’ instead of ‘used to’?

And leaving out the ‘ed’ on lots of words.

‘Bake beans’. No it’s baked beans.

‘I use to like that show’ . No, it’s fucking ‘used to’.

Lots of other examples I can’t bring to mind right now.

I want to burn the screen when I see that.

Also, when people say ‘long story short’ in conversation instead of ‘to cut a long story short’.

Aibu to hate this?

I think it’s an Americanism.

No. It's not common use here in my experience.

when I say baked beans and make an effort to emphasise the "d" it sounds like I am trying to put on a really rubbish Italian accent!!

@Posh I've just guffawed so loudly DS came in my room to see if I was ok Grin

Might be as annoying as people that start sentences like this.
Have seen it a lot lately.

I think it is fifty/fifty diction and stupidity.

I forgive poor diction.

Oh no, I write them all correctly. In my head I am saying them all correctly. My mouth just seems to miss out the d in pronunciation.

What is more amusing is sitting in my hotel room talking to myself, especially in this odd Italian accent that sounds like Captain Bertorelli from 'Allo 'Allo !

Love bake beans on toast. Are'u the thought police?
Long story short language evolves, your stuck in the 20th century. Grow up.

But Posh,
You don’t write without the ‘ed’, surely?

I've just said all "ed" phrases and I can't hear the "d". I know fine it's baked beans but it sounds like bake beans. Ditto "use {d} to". It is definitely my accent that causes this because in my brain I am saying baked beans but it sounds like bake beans. In fact when I say baked beans and make an effort to emphasise the "d" it sounds like I am trying to put on a really rubbish Italian accent!!

So the people mixing up his and he’s etc. presumably don’t know what both words actually mean. That is year 1 basic reading.

Using “than” instead of “then”.

I haven't really noticed it, but maybe I'm bias. Wink

I think it’s an Americanism. Plus there are an awful lot of thick people out there.

Grin I hadn't even noticed I said "gonna"

My online pet peeve is people who type like this... Whose only form of punctuation... Is three dots... And they always... Type like this...

I don’t mind your saying ‘gonna’ by the way.

People also don’t seem to know the difference between worse and worst.

I know I’m being pedantic when it irritates me to hear ‘different than’ instead of ‘different from ’. Aibu about being annoyed at the others?

I was gonna say if you meant in actual conversation the "ed" might just be faint.

But what's wrong with long story short?
