AIBU?

To say we need a new MN secret code / item to use IRL?

I joined MN in 2013, whilst duffers with DS1. There was a lot of talk about a 'Mumsnet scarf' that you could tell if someone was a MN-er if they were wearing one - sort of leopard-print, maybe blue?

I asked one friendly-looking mum at a baby group once if her scarf was a Mumsnet scarf and she looked confused and mildly offended. Yay! Go me.
Other than that I never saw one, and actually it might have been a wind-up or in-joke I didn't get because I was too new and stupid.

But we should have a Thing. A subtle way of slyly signalling that we are Mumsnetters, right? But what could it be? 🤨

@bluetrampolines

This is the MN haircut . It was quite popular a few years ago, although there were a few amusing threads when it had gone a bit disastrously wrong for some MNers!

Reading a Sandi Tokvig book and noticed she used naice in one bit. 《Waves to Sandi》.

MN folk are easy to spot.
They are busy typing away at the keyboard in coffee shops looking outraged at the price of water, suspiciously on the lookout for mature escorts and wondering how the hell they will get out their car parking connundrum.

No one mention the cult. Oh FFS. Too late.

I can't believe we've broken the first and second rules of MN. SeaOrg are going to punish us.

I work in a supermarket on checkouts. I've been waiting for absolutely anyone to do the divider thing xD

You weren't subtle enough. What you should have said is that's a 'naice' scarf. A mumsnetter would have picked up on the subtlety otherwise they would just think you have a funny accent.

I have often thought this. I've never been "spotted", although I have my suspicions about a couple of people I know, I wouldn't ask, it would feel rude & intrusive.

No. No cult. Definatly not.

I've been doing the divider thing. No one has commented yet but only one person has moved it.

We are not a part of a cult

Report
donquixotedelamancha · 16/07/2018 23:46

This isn't a cult

You only say that because you haven't reached level 3 yet. I'll bet you haven't even been shown the handshake yet.
