AIBU?

To be terrified that this is the future for the UK? (Sorry, yes it's a Brexit one)

The US Commerce Secretary just made a speech in which he demands that the UK scrap EU food standards on GM crops and animal farming standards after Brexit. Even more sinister were his words indicating that the USA expects to have influence in whatever Brexit deal the UK makes... "He said that it was critical that US interests must be taken into account when finalising an exit deal with the EU..!"

This is exactly what I've been afraid of and it looks to be coming true and the UK as a lone country will not be able to refuse whatever trade deal the USA demands. I get that people who voted leave are still happy they did but is this what they want to have happen?

Peregrina

With a reduction in food standards and labeling requirements I'm sure you will be able to buy premium, you just won't know what it is or is not! Of course once the NHS is dismantled and sold to the Americans the people who can't afford "premium" health care will have some sort of public clinic available too. Brexit is the opportunists charter to shaft the average person in the street. My employment, my childrens education and their futures are being threatened by Brexit and it makes my blood boil.

We will be forced to accept lower food standards.

I am quite sure there will still be non chlorinated chicken available as a Premium range, in the way that organic food is available now, but substantial numbers won't be able to afford the Premium range.

As for millions eating the stuff in the USA - just look at their obesity rates and tell us that this is a healthy population.

How can so many people miss the point. We will be forced to accept lower food standards. Chicken is chlorinated due to the lower standards it's produced to, it's just one example. No sovereignty on offer there at all!

Lord Kerr says EU treaty allows UK to change mind up to moment of leaving, and adding date to bill would not change that

Not remainers ... leavers. This is the kind of UK deal on offer from the US post Brexit.

EU (including UK) chicken doesn’t need to be chlorinated

ikr, yet remainers insist we will all be forced to eat chlorinated chicken after we leave the EU I wonder does that include vegetarians.

Thankfully crazy isn't contagious.

The idea that all British chicken and all chicken from anywhere in the world will have to be chlorinated before it is sold in the UK, goes in the category of batshit crazy.

EU (including UK) chicken doesn’t need to be chlorinated Hmm

Don’t get me started on US beef - just don’t eat it with red wine ...

Because it will all be chlorinated

The idea that all British chicken and all chicken from anywhere in the world will have to be chlorinated before it is sold in the UK, goes in the category of batshit crazy. And a reason why remainers should have to prove their sanity before being allowed to vote.
