My dd is 6 and last November got a spot on her leg which my gp said was molluscum? And made me feel a bit foolish for going. He said it would go and to ignore it.

She now has loads and I'm thinking of taking her back - I'm s bit nervous of going back tbh I felt like a real time waster last time but Dds leg look awful!

Pic included for clarification of leg hideousness.

Sorry you would be unreasonable. It's molluscum. It'll go when it goes. You could try molludab from the chemist. Some people think it's wonderful some useless but it's about all that can realistically be done.

My son had it for 2 years, was horrible. Always on his face and chest.

I started him on multivitamins at just before 3yrs old (cos he was a really crap eater) and they cleared up within a week....
possibly a coincidence, but maybe worth a try?

Ditto Molludab. Not cheap but worth every penny. But cheaper online FYI. Just touch the liquid to the spot, no pain, until it starts to go red and within days the spot has gone.

No point! It's a virus and has to work its way out. It took 18 months to go away!

Those look at least inflamed, and could be infected.

So YANBU to get them looked at by your GP again to check whether she needs an antibiotic for a secondary infection.
YABU to take her back expecting the GP to do anything about the actual molluscs - it's a viral skin infection, viruses do not respond to antibiotics.

MolluDab has no good evidence behind it.
Molluscum can take anything from a few weeks to a couple of years to go away. But away they go, in the fullness of time.

In my experience the GP wont do anything. Look on Amazon for Nelsons Clikpak Thuja 30c. That worked for DD (after nearly two years of 'waiting for them to clear up' - during which time they just spread).

My son had them for a good 3 years really bad all over his body. The doc burnt a couple off (just 2 spots)to kick start his immune system as he'd had them so long his body was ignoring them. They all disappeared in 2 weeks but his body is covered in small pitted scars where they were :(

My ds had them for 2 years.
Manuka honey got rid of them

It's a virus and DC 's immune system will fight it off
Molluscum is utterly harmless , I don't understand why you are worried or why one might consider putting poorly ratified chemicals in DC's skin for a very minor infection .
Ps it is best not to rub creams over them to avoid spread which is a major nuisance for children with eczema needing emollients.
Don't worry OP it will go away if it's own accord ... judging on the picture it might be about to

Homeopathy has even less evidence, sorry.

Cryotherapy can work as skin cells are made mainly of water and freezing the skin makes the water expand, the expanding cells burst and release the virus which is then recognised by the immune system. That is why treating just a couple of spots can make them all disappear.
Not all children will tolerate cryotherapy though and IMO it is important to make sure that the cure is not worse than what it is intending to treat.

DS2 has excess (kids with eczema are more prone to MC) and had his for well over 18 months. They just disappeared over night after a few had been inflamed and swollen looking - another way to activate the immense system.

OP, your DD big red looking ones may well be the beginning of the end for your MCs.

My eldest had it for 2 years. A fortnight after the last of them went, my youngest had it for a year. They will go. Make sure everyone has separate flannels and towels. The doctors won't do much...any treatment is very painful

DD had them for about 18 months. I took her after other tho us hadn't worked to be told it was molluscum. He have me some info about it and was quite helpful but said it would need to run it's course.

Where I live in Europe they recommend removing them because they are highly contagious. Yes they come back as long as the virus lasts, but clearing them means the child can play freely with others in a childcare setting without fear of passing them on. We had them removed by a dermatologist (scraped off, having applied local anaesthetic cream first). They were not infected and not that unsightly. We had to go back 3 times, at and then eventually they stopped coming back. Overall they lasted a couple of years. No scarring apart from one small pit where a big one was removed.

Astro 55

Do what Astro says!!!!

Molloscum is viral, but for some reason it responds to a good antibacterial soap.

My son had it and was being teased, his teacher said use antibacterial soap, she said she had it (several years before) and it was what she did. I was a bit 🙄But I tried it and it was gone with days!

BertrandRussell · 19/05/2017 22:25

Yika- they would have gone in 2 years whatever you did. And the virus is still there even if the spots are scraped off. Treatment depends entirely on medical insurance. Whatever you do they go by themselves. In about 18 months to 2 years.

Report
BertrandRussell · 19/05/2017 22:27

And anybody who says a treatment works? They used it because the molluscum got worse-infected or bleeding. That is what they do just before they go away whatever you do,

Report
PacificDogwod · 19/05/2017 22:27

Manuka honey, antibacterial soap, MolluDab, rubbing a toad's skin on them at midnight etc etc, they can disappear within days or last years or anything in between.

Tbh lots of treatment is offered in places where healthcare is paid for differently and offering a child lots of treatment generates income. Removing individual lesions does not make a child less contagious.

Like I said upthread, DS2 had them badly for a couple of years or near enough, his 3 siblings at a few to no lesions at all. All shared baths etc The mysteries of immunity Grin

Flyingbythesea click pack Thuja worked for me too! I was dubious and thought it was just a coincidence, but it worked for my DD & DN too and we were all at different stages of our outbreak. My niece had had it for years, me about six months and my daughter just had a few spots. A couple of weeks after taking Thuja and we were all clear.

MazDazzle · 19/05/2017 22:29

Also, the Thuja shrank all of my skin tags!

DD has had it for 2.5 years now.

Report
OhMrBadger · 19/05/2017 23:08

Yup, about 18 months for both of my DCs. They both had it over their torsos and on their inner elbow areas. DS1 had it at about 18months old and it caused him no issues. DS2 had it at 3 and had a few spots on his groin. As he's very active and sweaty, one of the spots on his groin became infected. GP gave us a topical anti-b cream. He still has scars from them.

Leave them alone unless they become infected. The virus will run its course and that will be that.

Another one for Molludab, £25 from Chemist, stings like hell apparently but has cleared it up in about 6 weeks.

DD had huge growths which were irritated by clothes and she couldn't wear her leotard for gym, plus they were really starting to spread, Molludab has been a godsend.
