... calling me at work to explain that the Dishwasher is flooding the kitchen and what would I suggest the best course of action may be ??

I have bullet pointed what I feel may be best in the dire circumstances:

  1. Turn machine off

  1. Mop up ( now that may prove tricky !!)

  1. Locate manual by opening bottom drawer in kitchen, retrieve plastic wallet containing a book which has Hotpoint Nextra Dishwasher emblazoned all over it - do not under any circumstances read anything which may contain the words Washing Machine, Tumble Dryer or Fridge as thaey will be as much help as a chocolate fireguard.

  1. Carefully open machine to ascertain either a) blockage or b)incorrect loading resulting in the aforementioned leak.

  1. Should he be unable to resolve the problem - DO NOT CALL AGAIN - remove items from the dishwasher, close it up return to navel gazing or purchases of ridiculous items of Ghurka memorabilia or whatever guise "I'm busy working" is taking today and I will deal with it upon my return from work, the supermarket and collection of our daughter from pre - school.

You have to laugh don't you ????

Of course you are unreasonable.
Why should he, as the fellow adult in your household, burden all the responsibility by himself, when he could be generous & share the worry with you?
Remember, many men, choose the easiest option, which is to try and delegrate responsibility to someone else (in this instance you). By seeking your advice, if anything goes wrong, he will now be able to blame you!!!!
Me cynical?

Thank You Bugsy - I fear i may have been a tad "impatient" with him which obviously adds to his general feeling of helplessness - I should have thought and not uttered the line " Oh for F*cks sake man" as i am unduly burdening him with ideas that I am not sharing his pain and anguish - Anyway - bet he's gone to the pub for lunch !!
