AIBU?

To be utterly fed up of what a fat blob I am?? (Not even calorie counting is working!)

God I'm irritated. I'm 5ft 10 and now weight 10st 13lbs (as of this morning 😒).

I look flabby and frumpy and want to weigh 10st.

Before Christmas I was calorie counting and losing every week. Got to 10st 7lbs. It went tits up over Christmas but now I'm back on it - on the same amount of calories (1450) and I'm putting weight ON!!! I'm so frustrated I don't know what to do. I never go over my calories so why would I put weight on all of a sudden? No change in exercise amounts either.

I do suffer with chronic constipation if which the dr has insisted I take Laxido - so now I look 6 months pregnant too. Excellent.

So fed up and actually considering surgery.

I feel the same often.... it's not that you are fat or overweight.... it's about how you feel and what you see when you look in the mirror.
Try a different diet and a different exercise routine. Your body got used to what you eat and your level of activity and at the moment your weight is stagnating. Make a few changes and you will start to lose weight again.... same happens to me.

You probably need to tone up rather than count calories. That will stop the wobble and you'll have more energy and feel generally better too. Couch to 5k is good if you want something which starts easy and slowly gets harder. Or 30 day shred is also good if you prefer to stay inside out of the cold. It's on youtube. I couldn't do the whole thing at first and I just do it 3x per week, not every day.

It can be a losing battle trying to pick a weight and get to it if that's not your body's natural point if that makes sense.

It sounds like you're unhappy about the wobbly bits rather than the weight. I would recommend taking up weight training: it's wonderful for sculpting, and it's very relaxing too.

If you're not happy with your figure then that's up to you - none of us can see you and can't really comment.

I have a bunch of friends who've done Slimming World and absolutely swear by it, they have so much fun at the meetings too!

I take Probiotic tablets for bloating - a brand called Nutri Preme. I didn't think they would do much but they've completely changed my digestive system!

Best of luck to you, and I'm sure you're absolutely gorgeous Halo

Constipation is correlated with weight gain. You need to sort your bowels out. I really recommend Tim Spector's book The Diet Myth.

Oh I completely skipped over the surgery comment. That really isn't necessary OP Confused

If your clothes are feeling tight and you don't feel great within yourself then it's not unreasonable to want to lose a bit of weight regardless of your size.

It's not unreasonable to feel a little uncomfortable with your size at any weight, especially if you are suffering from something like chronic constipation which would make you bloat. I'm currently on several antibiotics which are making me feel very bloated and uncomfortable. It's hell.

BUT

It is very unreasonable to be seriously considering something as drastic as surgery when you are a perfectly healthy weight and just to lose 13lbs.

Sometimes those of us who aren't overweight can have our fat blob moments. If your clothes are feeling tight and you don't feel great within yourself then it's not unreasonable to want to lose a bit of weight regardless of your size. Doesn't mean that we don't also sympathise with genuinely overweight people who have more of a mountain to climb with their weightloss.

OP come over to the weight loss forum, there is a thread for those of us who have less than a stone to lose. We know we're not overweight but could do with shifting a few pounds. Friendly and lots of good advice and tips.

You need to tackle the constipation first. Drink only water, lots and lots of veg and minimal dairy for a week

Maybe you are 'skinny fat' in that your BMI is okay but you are carrying more fat than is healthy.
Would be best to eat more calories but cut out carbs and sugar (especially liquid calories) Sub more green veg instead of potatoes, noodles.

Also look into weightlifting - that will help with diet and you'll be a damn sight stronger too.

palcum your BMI is 18.6 you you're only just scraping into the healthy weight category. It's a little worrying that you're feeling flabby at such a low weight.

I get you, OP.

I'm 5'10 and 9st 4lbs and I feel frumpy and flabby too. You're not fat, but if you feel unhappy with how you look then that's a problem in itself. Maybe rather than losing weight you could look at toning up or building some muscle? It might help to pull your stomach in and make you look slimmer even at the same weight, that's what's working for me.

Good luck.

I think you need to take a deep look at your metal wellbeing. Is it possible you have body dysmorphia?

Weirdly, you might not be eating enough for your height, so your body is storing fat in case of famine (truly!!)

I'd switch out all processed/ white carbs for pulses, whole grains and sweet potato. Eat more lean protein. Add in a couple of snacks with healthy fats in - maybe apple and nut butter and avocado on rye ?

Then ..,, Exercise. Exercise. Exercise. High intensity cardio interspersed with weights.

Lots of water.

Are you not aware that when you're in a healthy weight range you will find it harder to lose weight unless you restrict really really drastically?

Stop dieting and start exercising. Try the Shred. It really works and is only 20 mins a day. I promise you'll get better results.

I would give my right arm to weigh what you do, at 5 10" I bet you are lovely and slim.

I'm 5ft 9 and 12st 5 and I look very tubby around the middle even though I go to the gym every morning.,. I would LOVE to be 11st something never mind 10st 13! Weight loss wont improve the flabbiness - get to the gym, hire a personal trainer and lift some weights.

Sounds more like you need to tone up than diet. You aren't overweight at all.

Report
Pestilentialone · 26/01/2017 09:24

I'm the same height and weight as you. I can be squidgy and a bit round tummied or lean and toned at this weight.
If you want to be lean and toned, exercise is the way to go. Walk three miles or more a day, helps with constipation too. Do some yoga or pilates for flexibility and posture, swim, heave some weights around, do anything you fancy, rock climbing?. Eat more fiber(vegetables) and some fat, trim the carbs, same calories. Work on replacing the squidgy bits with muscle.
Don't lose faith, you are nearly there.

I think your diet could be carb heavy. Swap the lunch for baked salmon and salad, or similar? Cottage pie is a main meal to me, not lunch.

Your BMI is 21.9 ffs - how is that in any way fat?

I'm two inches shorter and at 11st 7 I was a 10 top 12 bottom and slim at BMI 24.5.

Now I'm 10st 5, BMI 22 and 8 top 10 bottom.

I think you need a reality check here.

Constipation is actually a little-known side effect of disordered eating - specifically, starving yourself and making yourself sick. Your original post is already setting off alarm bells considering you're actually a perfectly healthy weight and probably appear quite slim.

Your current calorie count seems reasonable and I would urge you not to cut down even further in a bid to lose weight faster. The reason you are probably gaining weight right now is because when we lower our food intake our bodies go into "survival mode" and start storing fat - but keep it up and in the long-term you will lose weight. But as a recovering bulimic myself, I can assure you that the worst thing you could possibly do to your body is become obsessed with it.
