AIBU?

To let my child eat two eggs in one sitting?

My dd (3 next month) loves eggs. She recently started asking for 2 boiled eggs instead of 1 for lunch.
My dm was a bit Shock at me giving her 2 eggs in one go. The next time I saw my nan she said to me 'I think you should phone the health visitor or doctor and check it's ok to have 2 eggs'. I have Googled but can't find anything.
The eggs are only small and dd is not 'bunged up' which seems to be their concern. She also only has boiled eggs once or twice a week, not everyday!
Is 2 small eggs really a problem?

The new thinking on the cholesterol in eggs is that it actually lowers your body's production of cholesterol.

The limitation on eggs per day is very outdated.

My kids eat 2 and me and she have 3.....sometimes 4 in an omelette! But only once a week. I don't see the problem, kids burn off lots of fat.

I find I get constipated if I eat more than one boiled egg....but I have gastrointestinal issues anyway. I bloody love boiled eggs too, one is never enough! I find that scrambled or even poached eggs don't affect me in the same way though which is odd. Also boiled eggs cause me to have horrific gas where other eggs don't! I found information online a while ago as to why different preparations affect your digestion differently, but I bet I won't be able to find it again to post on here!

Ha ha ha my 10 month old will eat a 2 egg omelette!! I think it's fine, if they'll eat it, let them!

That's absolutely fine! The only concern with eggs is the high cholesterol levels in them, which a 3 year old doesn't need to worry about. Eggs are full of omega oils, great for brain development.

It was stated by health authorities earlier this year that eating eggs did not lead to a risk of high cholestrial and there was no harm in eating them every day. I've always eaten a lot of eggs, at one point had a couple of poached eggs for breakfast every day and felt fine on it and didn't know there could be a problem until I came to the UK.
All this stuff about them causing constipation -- has anyone ever had proof of this?
Being egg bound is a problem in cage birds and can kill budgies and canaries etc. Ovulation in humans is connected with altogether different problems!
I remember a commercial that went where there's an egg in the house, there's a meal in the house - such a versatile food.

It's an old theowback to eggs being deemed unhealthy - full of cholesterol.

2 eggs - why not? Healthy, cheap, so easy to prepare and importantly they are nice and filling, so keeps littl'un off the jammy dodgers. Biscuit

Are they really only 70kcals - I've always felt a bit extravagant if I eat two at once. .... (plus residual worry due to old wives tales that were drilled into me about 'binding')

I think there was some weird thinking in the '80s that eggs gave you high cholesterol and you should only have so many per week.

I've always let my kids have as many eggs and bananas as they wanted.

Non of them have high cholesterol or potassium levels as far as I'm aware!

My 14mo ds usually has two eggs scrambled for breakfast most days. Eggs are good aren't they?!

It's fine.

I don't think I've ever eaten just one egg at a time. When I was little, it was always two boiled eggs and soldiers.

I'd like to think I'm fine.

Of course it's fine - eggs are a good healthy option. I'm a doctor, and don't know everything of course but I've never heard that eggs can cause constipation......

Totally fine to have 2 eggs (or 3 or 4 imho). One of mine ate the whole shell too when he was 3, which I don't think is recommended (though did him no harm thank goodness!)

As long as she's not constipated, I don't see an issue. My dd was perfectly capable of eating two eggs at that age, complete with toast. She's a perfect weight for height and as healthy as they get!

There is nothing wrong with eating 2 eggs, nor having them every day. They are one of the best sorces of protein you can find. Anyone who believes they are dangerous because of fat/cholesterol etc should read proper research on the subject x

My just 4 year old has always eaten 2 eggs at lunchtime at least twice a week with no problems! I wouldn't be concerned at all. It's good healthy protein!

Egg yolks contain 90 percent of the calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamin, B6, folate, pantothenic acid and B12 of the egg. In addition the yolk contains all of the fat-soluble components, such as vitamins A, D and E, not to mention the heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

Egg yolks are also a rich source of some other very interesting nutrients such as choline, lutein and zeaxanthin.

Choline is essential for cardiovascular and brain function. Eating more of it may mean mean less inflammation, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimers, and more.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are the major antioxidants in eggs. They protect the eyes by filtering harmful light wavelengths and lowering risk of macular degeneration.

My 2yr old loves scrambled egg, which we make with just egg, no milk etc. He will easily have 2 eggs in one sitting. It's a good source of protein and nutrients.

As long as they're not Cadburys, I shouldn't worry. My gran (who passed at the grand old age of 88) used to panic 20+ years ago when I wanted egg sandwiches two days running, so I'd say it's an older generation thing.
