AIBU?

To wonder why so many people are nasty and thoughtless

Some of the threads on here today where an OP posting for support in a distressing situation is getting abuse reflecting treatment they received in real life.

We are supposed to be a civilised society. I just don't get it. Why? What does kicking someone when they are down achieve. Where is the compassion.

I don't go on a thread to slag someone off in a sensitive situation. If I can't be of support then I won't post.

I might think somebody is wrong or horrid, both on MN and in real life, but what does it achieve to give them a further kicking.

There are lots of people for whom a few kind words or care would make their day yet there are so many people who would rather be nasty instead.

Is being supportive of somebody upset or vulnerable really so hard?

I don't see much point in faux sympathy or support neither although I would like to think most support posted on here is genuine. Nor do I see any reason to follow the crowd.

Robust debate is great and can help an OP see things from a different perspective. Yes sometimes it's not said gently but with the right intention.

But some comments and behaviour are said with the intention of being nasty with the full knowledge it will upset the OP. In those circumstances I am asking why people are lacking in compassion and still post inflammatory comments.

I see plenty of threads where I will strongly disagree with what the OP has done but if it's obvious they are vulnerable or upset I won't post. It's not difficult to refrain from being nasty.

When threads disappear, are we ever told why? Are we to assume that they are all fake, somehow?

There are loads of teachers here, by the way.

Oh yes usual, the ex TES members tend to have a distinctive style.

TES? Just for teachers!! Goodness me, no! Anyone who is interested in education is welcome on TES, dontcha know!?
(God, they could do with anyone and everyone, given how many decent posters they have banished.)

It's not insincere and false to phrase things gently rather than sharply, is it? Communication isn't just about spewing out your thoughts. It's about what the other person hears not just what you say. Anyway, I don't think I'm helping here, so I'll bog off.
I'll go and dream of a world where more people care about the experiences of the people around them...

I haven't heard of it either - I presume it's for teachers?

There is such a lot of factors
You don't know the person. Half of the comments people would never say irl.
We all have sensitive days. I know I do.
You are reading comments on here and they can be misconstrued. Like texts. I have been guilty of that.
Some people are brutal in a 'that's me' annoying way. Just avoid them.
But....
I do run out of patience sometimes when people repeatedly drag others through the same mess repeatedly asking advice. And some people could do with a wake up call and hearts and flowers is not always the best option....
life is hard though.....

TES Opinion in the not too distant past was combative and feisty. The debates were not all educational, either...

I don't report posts like yours because it helps for other people to see you making a twat of yourself ^^

You really do have an issue with me... if I'm not that important why comment on my posts all the time?

Still I suppose it's a hobby
