I have posted here before about this - the incessant talk of referendums and yesterday's news about the bloody SNP drawing up a bill for bloody indyref 2. I am so fucking sick of it, I truly am. I love my life here but am just so fed up of the constant threat of independence referendums, I cannot and will not bear another one. My job would be seriously at risk in the event of independence and in any case I just wouldn't want to live here or bring my family up with the consequences of independence.

It's making me hate being Scottish and hate living in Scotland when I can never feel settled as the threat is constantly hanging over us. There are idiots on my FB celebrating the 'announcement' of indyref2 yesterday and I have just had enough of it all, I thought this was settled in 2014.

Truly hope Nicola Sturgeon is put in her place over this and told that no she's not getting another referendum and to get on with her actual job of running the country.

Sorry about the above "deleted" post. I tried to post a petition, which I thought would have interested people with similar views to mine. Apparently this upset several mumsnetters enough to report me for "breaking guidelines" and got me temporarily blocked from posting I have now posted the petition in the petitions section as appropriate.
It would be embarrassing for anyone to think I was saying anything naughty or rude or sweary so wanted to redeem myself and explain. Sorry if the petition offended anyone.

Just to respond to your op: I feel similarly. I don't do Facebook and think it can be upsetting for no gain. Either limit those you are in contact with or give it up.

I don't discuss independence with anyone any longer. I want to leave Scotland but none of my family will hear of it. The very moment my husband cracks I will have the details of the house with the estate agent next day! Well that's what i tell myself. Until that moment it is my aim to let this leave me as undisturbed as possible. So I try to feel "what will be will be".

I've seen plenty of racist abuse from Scottish people - it is more of a problem around the Borders up to Glasgow and Edinburgh, further north than that we generally adopt a more "live and let live" attitude. It's embarrassing when you're just sitting quietly in a pub and overhear someone get called a "fucking English bitch" for no particular reason.

Unfortunately the populist politics of the SNP actively encourages such abuse. The SNP, the BNP and UKIP are all guilty of fuelling the flames in this regard; it's just the other two don't tend to get themselves elected into positions where they can actively carry out their discriminatory and divisive policies.

I'll have to check back to see who said constant. There was 1979 devolution, 1997 devolution, 2014 independence and although that may not be "constant" NS banging on about having referendum every time a mouse farts in london is constant and irritating and damaging to the reputation of the whole of the uk.

I am qualified in my profession in England & Wales as well as Scotland and if Scotland goes independent, I am moving south. I'll probably be on here with a thread called "Recommend me somewhere to live in England".

I worry that brexit is just the tip of the iceberg, with the increasing move to the right over Europe we could see several countries following the UK out of the EU. If we were independent I don't think we would fare well in those circumstances.

Scotland is in a mess. Education, NHS, Economy, Unemployment, police crisis, businesses stretched to the max. SNP are to blame as all they want is to blame someone else and get independence regardless of impact on the people of Scotland. They are clearly hoping that if they make things really terrible and continue to blame Westminster then people will be so desperate they will believe it. I don't think people are that silly to be honest and hope they will see through it all

It's unlikely Scotland would have the independant financial means to join the EU if they were independent. They simply don't meet the EU criteria for financial stability with their huge debt.

And with the loss of the funds received from Westminster their financial position would be even worse. (Barnett formula).

It's also been verified that many who voted for independence voted to leave the EU and vice versa. In fact the numbers actually cancel themselves out so that it's likely Indyref2 would return the same result.

I've several rabid Indy supporters who I love dearly but I never ever express my views or try to give them a reality check.

I just wish NS would do a better job of governing Scotland and maybe then there would be change for the better socially and financially and then maybe independence would be a possibility

It was a UK wide vote the "English" didn't do anything to us that the "Welsh" didn't. Remarkable how it is always the "English". A hell of a lot of Scottish people voted to leave. A hell of a lot of English and Welsh voted to remain. It was a close vote. The deal we had in the EU was as part of being in the UK and it wasn't that great to be honest. Now the rest of our pals are out the deal would be rubbish, but the snp will do anything to get independence however bad the outcome for Scotland.

We're in the same boat OMG.

My MIL has a larger business that has done better in recent years and she runs an apprenticeship scheme to get young people in as well.

If they are squeezed financially, they will have to toss it. As they can't afford to have non-working 'teaching' staff to supervise them. They'd need all hands on deck.

We support a number of local schools, community groups and charities. In small but regular ways. But if it's a choice between keeping my staff (to ensure I can take a day off when I already work 50 hr weeks) or supporting a charity then I am sorry but my health comes first.
What a shit choice to have to make.

I know, they are so anti business. My husband would need to re establish his business somewhere else if we leave. May sound selfish, but I want a future for my kids and it is looking increasingly like Scotland will not be a place where they can have one.
